I don't blame the talent, this years lot are better than last years. I don't know if some are just annoyed because their favourites went out earlier but having joined at Judges Houses stage this year, I feel this group is far superior to last years.
The line up last night wasn't good, they had all the good ones on together at the end, should have spread it out a bit to keep it interesting throughout. |

Well, that's my expectations lowered.
But since it's the results, including HD & +1 it should break the 10m barrier tonight. |

9.6m last night with an 11.4m peak. For a bit of perspective in comparison to last year, I thought all of the figures were worth posting. Found on DS, include +1 and figures in brackets are the peaks.
Week 1- 10.94m (12.66)/11.9m (13.9m) Week 2- 10.26m/11.62m Week 3- 10.11m/11.28m (12.42m) Week 4- 9.9m/12.19m (13.14m) Week 5- 10.05m/12.2m (13.02m) Week 6- 10.83m/12.66m (13.67m) Week 7- 10.68m/12m Week 8- 10.24m/12.19m Week 9- 10.62m/12.04m Week 10- 10.93m/13.11m |

Real proof in the pudding is how many stick with it next week.

I think what happened last night might cause a further drop. It was too big a risk and has damaged the show's reputation even further. Some of the remaining viewers are going to give up after that.

Pretty much - instead of getting back the people who deserted the show, they will alienate the viewers who have kept with the show

I just thought the whole 'fix' was set up so badly, it was laughable. I didn't connect or feel remotely interested in the any of the contestants this weekend. In the age of PVR, I think we'll see a lot of record and fast forwarding going on |

In previous years the figures have gone up after such stunts. People will tune in next weekend to see if he gets through (which he will). And then the week after to see if he'll be in the bottom 2.
Bottom line: this was a short-term stunt that has done long-term damage. |

I expect ratings to fall to 6.66 million at some point when Christopher is involved in another sham of a sing-off.
That will be our darkest hour. |

I didn't watch any of the results show, but if it was a blatant fix with the whole 'producer talks to Louis during sing off' and then 'Louis changes mind sending it to deadlock' (what I've picked up on here) - it's definitely NOT an incentive for me to start watching it week after week like I have in previous years. |

9.6m and 11.4m peak. Series high in terms of peak but slightly underwhelming after last nights events. I wonder if it picks up next week after this 'controversy'. Look at the live show ratings in previous years after something like this happened, I'm pretty sure they've had a boost.

I'd love to see it break the 10m mark next week, especially after this drama, it usually boosts the figures.

I can definitely see the ratings staying steady at the very least. |

I think it could possibly go the other way actually. Quite a few people I know who rarely watch the show all went on iplayer to watch this episode (because of the big reaction online concerning Louis/Gary).

I suspect there must be some panic going on behind the scenes and they're resorting to drastic measures. The entire drama last night was faked by the producers (including the producer in shot talking to Louis)....clearly done to get people talking about the show.

It will provoke talk and curiousity but the most damage to the series was done with the Cher/Mary fiasco. The fact so many people got outraged last night was eye-opening because it's amazing anyone still sees it as anything but a soap. Bad acting and all. And that the sing-off has always been there only to preserve the characters and their storyline in the show. Deadlock only being used if it matches up with the shelf-life of the contestant concerned to try and deflect the criticism. Even in the always cynical main thread last night posters who had followed the show for years said how they couldn't see Rylan being saved after that. Completely missing the point of the sing-off yet again. Rylan's story was just beginning and is vital for the big production numbers in the early weeks. Carolyne's was over already, they used it up on Saturday. So damage could be done again by this, especially coming right at the start as opposed to right at the end. People may tune in to see any more controversy and what happens to Rylan, but it's also sent the message don't get invested in any contestant or the show because it really doesn't matter who you like. Or who is better. It's who THEY want. So why stick with it for week after week till the end? High stakes for a gamble indeed, as there seems to be far more than I thought who still believed it all and they were the ones watching. |

But Carolynne wasn't liked at all because she came bottom in the voting. They can get away with it because they will always be able to say that if people had voted for her she'd still be there.

Have any of the winners ever been in the bottom though? That' the thing about the ones who win, they've never had the chance to be thrown out by the judges. It's the one thing they can't actually control.
The rest are just on the expendable list, of which Carolyne was one. They just have different length of stories, chucked into the bottom 2 when neccessary with the sing-off used to make sure they leave at the right week. The expendables all about ratings, drama, controversy, and getting people invested in the show with villains, underdogs, carcrashes etc. They are there for the benefit of ITV, unlike the others who are there for the benefit of Cowell. Like BB XF is just a soap in the style of a reality TV show. |

You have the handful who are earmarked for the final, they get all the help when required anyway, the winner is irrelevant it's just important the ones who stay do stay till the final. As a pre-marketing campaign, by the time someone is declared winner the job has already been done.

I wouldn't be so sure about ratings going down. Look at series 7: controversial results week after week with Katie constantly being saved and viewing figures just went up and up.

They have to get little enough votes to get into the bottom two before the producers or the judges can do anything though. They can't do anything to a contestant until they are in the bottom two - they can't save them or send them home if they keep getting the votes.
How long their story last just varies by how expendable they are. Carolyne had already been used up for Saturday's strange song choice. Rylan has to camp it up for at least another couple of weeks for the big production numbers to grab attention during the first live shows. Then they will give him his chance to redeem himself by stripping it back and showing he is a 'serious' artist. At which point the public bore of him, he is no longer needed for the big productions, ends up in bottom 2 and is booted out. Lucy will be Devlin'd after a few weeks. You can call most of it easily. |
