For the first time ever I doubt any of TXF will get into the top 5 shows of the year - there's just been far too many big events this year with Murray in Wimbledon, us hosting the Olympics, the jubilee and Euro 2012.

Could still get in the top 30.

it should do well. one thing about xfactor is that they put it on at good times, not like 6pm like the voice did.

i guess about 12m

Well, many people predicted less than 20m for the Olympics closing ceremony, but peaked at well over that, so we never know, more people could tune in than we expect.
Slightly off topic, how many millions did it actually peak at?

Ooh, that is kinda low.

Here's hoping they continue to improve. I bet it's because of the weather.

Very underwhelming ratings. They needed to overhaul the judging panel again and they haven't bothered.

Haha, but he does have a point, only they're up against Strictly.

42% audience share in a multi-channel world is still quite good. itv are not going to give up on x-factor any time soon

I actually think the ratings are not that bad, 8 million for any other show would be considered a major success.

however a number of factors affected the ratings possibly
1. the weather
2. Youtube why watch the whole show when you can see it all in 10 minutes on youtube, what they should do is ban videos on youtube of the x factor if they want ratings to increase.
3. as others have said with so many events and the olympics people may have had enough of tv for the time been.

the key will be overall ratings in next few weeks and judges houses etc if they are hovering around the 10 million mark they will be pleased.

also i think the bbc will be awkward this year and schedule strictly against x factor especially if they have olympic stars it could be a battle for a change.

it worth noting against the BGT and The voice ratings they aired in early part of spring not in middle of summer.

also should not compare over past few years as the reccession made people stay in more.

The percentage share isn't far off last year, so it's got to be down to the hot weather.

Thats totally irrelevant as the weather at that part of spring was hot - way above average and better than most of the summer to date!!!

Of course nothing to do with audiences being sick of the same old tired format year on year. Of course not!

Everybody has a boredom threshold and I feel a lot of people have reached it with this sad old format. Certainly just talking to people around there is a general feeling of 'here we go again' with all the pathetic hype and the inevitable 'breaking' news stories about the contestants and the judges..
