It's having a really great build up, and that's something I don't think the past couple of series have had. I'm hopeful for the series launch to get around 9M. It would be amazing to see it get an audience of 10M, but that's me wishfully thinking and being ambitious. Having said that, the BGT launch peaked with 13M this year. Maybe it will be the year of Simon again, and The X Factor gets impressive ratings ”

BGT peaked with 13m, relying on a massive +1 audience because it went up against The Voice.

I think 9m is probably easily achievable, given the build-up, and momentum. 10m would be great, 11m would be fantastic but it probably won't happen. Should definitely be up on last year.

Watching that new clip with Sharon getting the giggles, the room auditions are going to be TV gold this year, and hopefully the panel works as well throughout the series. I'm upscaling my prediction to 10 million for the launch.

I'm with you on this prediction too. There's a lot of hype surrounding the series, and ITV have created quite an impressive advertising campaign.

I havent noticed much hype around the xfactor this year. They even had to change the date of the press screening because it clashed with the Edinburgh TV Festival and they were worried not enough of the press would turn up to the XFactor screening.

Do you have a source for the date change? Otherwise you're talking rubbish as usual. The date change is more to do with the format change. Airing alternate weeks of hotel and arena auditions would be confusing.

Yes, the source is my colleague at work who was invited to Mayfair hotel initially dated 22/8 for a preview screening. Anyway, regardless of whether there is hype or not, I think we can all agree that this year's launch should rate significantly better than last year's 8m. This year's launch has had 6 weeks of promotion which is about 3x more than usual, there is no post-Olympic effect this year, no Paralympics to compete against, not the hottest day of the year unlike last year's launch, a new format. It should be on for a 9-9.5million average [exc+1] which would be better than last year but worse than 2009-2011.

You really do make no sense.

Firstly, "colleague at work" isn't a source and probably made up.

Secondly, if you're saying there is no hype and if it seems too negative because the show seems to be back to laughing at bad contestants, then why do you expect it to rate significantly better than last year?

9.5m is certainly achievable but it will probably fall short and turn out at about 9.2m (inc +1), for which you'll write off the entire series straight away. Yet if it does somehow hit the 9.5m benchmark without +1, it will probably go unnoticed by you.

I am very excited to find out the launch rating. Sharon and the new format will certainly bring back many of the old viewers that where lost over the past two seasons.

Samuel, we get the picture. You hate X Factor and everything to do with ITV, and you want it to fail miserably this year.

"haven't noticed much hype" - I wouldn't expect you to. There's a much more positive vibe on this forum this year. The new format should definitely bring back some viewers who deserted the show a few years ago.

Last year's launch got 8.1m / 8.7m. 9.5m would only mean a 1.4m increase so hardly significant. We've seen huge increases between a launch rating one year and the next before with these shows. It's had some sort of hype this year which it hasn't had any other year. The rooms are back, along with the arenas, Sharon is back, bootcamp has gotten almost a complete overhaul. It didn't have any last year (almost), the year before it was all about the three new judges, the year before was all about Cheryl having malaria, the punch-up etc, and the year before was the new format with the arenas. Even if it gets 10 million, it'll be regarded as "low for X Factor's standards"...

I would ignore Samuel's posts as they do spout a lot of nonsense.

Why should we ignore anothers members comments..is it because they dont comply with you or u just don't like someone not liking or sharing the same programmes. Public forum. If u do want to tell people to ignore, maybe i suggest kindly that u ignore posts yourself.

I'm holding out for 10M

It has the perfect slot on Saturday. 8pm-9:15pm, real competition from only a National Lottery gameshow and Casualty.

The 'benchmark' of 9.5m would mean it'll be up by 17.5% on last year and 1.4m. With all the momentum/hype surrounding this series, there's no reason why it can't hit that.

I really want X Factor to do well this year.

Last year had a good year for talent and I think the best year since 2008.

I think Sharon's return and back to the rooms will bring viewers back.

I'm hoping for at least 9 Million. I think it can do it.

Sharon being on Chatty Man on Friday should also help publicise the show.

They need to get the word about. I don't think ITV would like another year of 20%+ falls.

I think it can reach 10.97. An audtions episode hit that last year, although it was the final one, previous series have launched around that mark, and with all the buzz and better advertising I think it can do it

Or... It could go the other way, and debut around the late 8/early 9 million mark

that is nowhere near a disaster those are terrific number! it should peak around 8.5 million.

What is wrong with 8-8.5 million viewers that is good numbers for a show that is in its 10th series. It also has reality tv shows BGT The Voice, Strictly, CBB, BB all reality tv competitions on al year. A peak of 8.5 million will be a success. I think all reality tv shows this year will see a decrease in viewers. VERY unlikely there will be a rise in ratings on any of these shows.

10.97m was the official figure for the last bootcamp episode, which in turn ended up being the highest rating for the series until the final.

Just to put into context [and for future reference], this is how the previous launches have rated:

2004 - 4.9m
2005 - 6.6m
2006 - 7.0m (37%)
2007 - 9.5m (45%)
2008 - 10.19m (48.2%)
2009 - 9.91m (47.9%)
2010 - 11.28m (48.6%)
2011 - 10.80m (45.7%) / 11.30m (47.9%)
2012 - 8.09m (39.4%) / 8.71m (42.3%)

For what reason, exactly?

Saturation, it is seen throughout all shows that have aired so far this year

Saturation is hardly the reason - The Voice, Dancing on Ice and Britain's Got Talent haven't had an inspiring series this year. No momentum/hype. Plus, The Voice's (and BGT's for that matter) scheduling was a bit of a mess.
