Good rating for X Factor last night - a night-on-night rise of 1.2m (1.3m if you want to go on +1 figures). A peak of 10.7m inc +1 too.

So, to round up (again):

Auditions 1: 8.78m (40.0%) / 9.20m (41.9%)
Auditions 2: 9.21m (36.2%) / 9.94m (39.1%)
Auditions 3: 7.94m (36.3%) / 8.30m (37.9%)
Auditions 4: 9.11m (35.5%) / 9.64m (37.6%)

It's not doing too badly so far.

In other news, the official figures for the first two episodes are 9.99m and 10.41m. Timeshifts of 1.21m and 1.2m from the overnight figures respectively. Both comfortable up on last year. They were the second highest and highest rated shows of the week respectively.

The Sunday show is the sixth highest rated programme of the year so far, though I imagine that'll be surpassed in the coming weeks.

I hope XF can manage to hit 10m in the overnights before the auditions are over. It doesn't have anything in the way of competition next week.

X Factor could have done better on Saturday. The main reason it did badly, is that the programme that preceded it got only 2 million viewers (Stepping Out - the "Strictly rip-off"). Had ITV stuck something there that could get double, or even triple that (TV Burp, a quiz show comes to mind) X Factor may get a bigger boost. We shall see what they have up their sleeves.

But, they are creating interest in the contestants at the very least. Tamera last week, Melanie this week (mainly).

I hope it does better next week, even though last night's figures weren't really that bad. Last year's fourth audition show (on the Saturday) fell to 7.7m (8.2m inc +1) so it's up on that too.

I really think SCD hurt it a lot on Saturday. Wasn't the 15-minute peak around 8.5m? I think it may have averaged 8.2-8.3m had it started at 20:10.

Interesting trend we're seeing with the Sunday episodes being higher than the Saturday shows, quite odd considering Saturday is it's traditional slot.

There are usually a few more million people watching TV on a Sunday evening compared to Saturday. There have only been three instances where the Sunday show has rated lower than the Saturday, since they started them.

Oh wow! I always just presumed it was because Sunday was always the results, even during bootcamp and judges houses it was when the decisions were made.

Some people are saying there is no 'momentum' this year, and YouTube hits are lower (this being Samuel). It's a load of rubbish if you ask me - and YouTube views mean nothing in terms of ratings. They weren't very high in 2009 & 10 compared to last year (apart from Ablisa and Cher's audition, the top two videos on the XF channel).

You can't blame me for slightly 'under-predicting' after seeing Saturday's rating (which was surely just an anomaly), but it should be up next week.

If you think about it, the reason the live shows in series 5-7 held up so well, not only because the show was well put together, but they had a good warm-up show. Take Me Out wasn't a good warm-up show last year, it practically collapsed in the ratings when it went up against Strictly (compared to what it was getting before) but TV Burp was unfazed when it went against Strictly. It even got 7 million once!

If anything, there is more talk around the series this year compared to last year.

More bits from Saturday:

Strictly's peak of 9.4m (44.1%) came at 19:55, just before X Factor started. X Factor's peak of 9.5m (42%) (inc +1) came at 20:50.

Between 20:00 and 20:10, Strictly had 8.1m (35.9%) compared to X Factor's 6.5m (28.5%).

Looks like it was dented by Strictly on those merits. The first ten minutes the previous week (the launch show) averaged 8.11m (inc +1).

Doing some maths, that means 20:10-21:00 averaged around ~8.25m.

Going on that, the first ten minutes were hit. X Factor & Strictly should stay well away from each other from now on.

If you are that good at maths, how much would Strictly have averaged if you take away those ten minutes?

According to this (don't know how trustworthy it is), looks like XF USA got off with only 4.4m last night.

Looks like we can expect Simon back next year.

Wow. That's awful

That's lower than The Voice gets over here. Terrible

Increases the chance of Mr Cowell returning here next series which we need.

Hasn't been confirmed though.

To be honest, it does seem like an unlikely figure. 4 million? It can't be right. I was expecting a minimum of 6M.

Was '4' the share - not the actual number of viewers?

Lmao oh dear. I think it'll average now between 4-6M possibility final peak of 8

I really do not want to see Simon back on the UK show. He's more predictable than Louis

It was actually 6.2m but that's still a poor figure.

Those are very poor figures. Exactly half of what the 1st season launched to 2 years ago (12.65 mill and 4.4 in the demo). And with little to no competition on the night either. All Simon can hope for is that the episode was well received (by all accounts it was) and positive word of mouth will travel.

Why are there ratings so awful? At 6M, it's comparable to The Voice UK and we all know how that is received over here. Maybe American's feel the same towards The X Factor USA as we do to The Voice? There's no of bringing in huge ratings to The Voice UK over here, and maybe in the USA that's what The X Factor is like? Just because it's been a success here, doesn't guarantee success in America. It works both ways; The Voice is huge in America, but it just doesn't work here.

If there is no improvement (the last two series, there hasn't been) then I think it's safe to say it'll be axed. But, give it a bit of time before making a judgement I would say.

Sunday got around 9M didn't it? It won't go much beyond that. 9M is impressive
