I genuinely think that the overall consensus is that the show has had it's day. Not just The X Factor, but shows like it. The Voice ended up being a relative failure after being hyped up, Superstar was struggling (though that was entertaining because of the constant references to "The Jesuses" and a game I discovered called "what expression is Andrew Lloyd Webber trying to pull off now?"), Big Brother being relegated to Channel 5. I think that's the signifier of a dying genre. The market has been far too saturated. And people are clearly growing weary of the same old tricks.
Big Brother, X Factor and the ALW shows have all been on nearly a decade and people just get weary. The Voice is nothing new just Fame Academy under another name. Friends of mine who loved these shows have moved on and here am I still watching them but I'm becoming a minority. I think you can give these shows just so many revamps before you need to give up the ghost. What will replace them is the question the powers that be will be working on even as I type. As I've said elsewhere - enjoy them while you can ... |

Anything that we think will bring in better ratings?
Let's look at some days with warm weather on which XF has been broadcast and how they have rated compared to normal episodes. |

One thing's for certain - if ratings don't pick up, or even worse, actually fall further... then expect something truly outlandish once the live shows start. Something REALLY big, like the replacement of a judge or live from Wembley every week, or something. The only tactic SyCo knows is to make things bigger and bigger.

Yeah, I bet the PR team already has pre-written a bunch of shocking scandals for every week.

They will pick up once this awful set up audition process is done with.

I agree with Wiggins and I think many others do too, predict this series to be down over last years by a margin.

Rita Ora's guest judge stint will be shown tonight, and the weather seems back to normal, could this bring in higher ratings?

No, Rita Ora is not popular with the majority of public. She is popular with just teenagers and young people in their 20s. She's not a big name to boost XFactors flagging ratings.

Geri Halliwell did it back in 2010 on the first episode, lifted the viewing figures.

From the ratings thread:
The X Factor peaked with 10.9m (46%). Source: Jenny Cummins Normally Jenny's figures include +1, so it is 1m up week-on-week (average around 9.1m/9.7m therefore), share is identical to last week's peak. |

I don't really think a peak is a rating... they should just report the averages to be honest.

It could improve when bootcamp/judges houses come along, though at this rate, seems unlikely.
Peak is pretty good, average isn't. But does it really matter when the average is quite low but the peak is quite high? For example, the peak for the final in 2009 was 19 million, average was around 15 million. |

Don't think a 36% share is very good either. Hopefully, as with previous years, the show picks up as it enters bootcamp.

36% says it all... some years ago they had around the 40-45% of the audience every day.
The bad weather is exactly showing that last week's results weren't because of the good weather. |
