ITV will have to promote it a fair bit to ensure that people tune in. It does look interesting, and drama usually does equal viewers as long as it's executed properly.

Strictly has a 2 hour long live show that night - X Factor only a 90 minute show with adverts. And Bootcamp is usually the weakest part of the competition. The outcome will be interesting - though secretly I want X Factor to win.

How do we see people taking to the X Factor this year? Outside of this forum, is it a more positive view compared to last year, do you reckon?

I don't know what to make of bootcamp - I'll predict a little over 9m but it could also go down.

I'm predicting 8.8 for Saturday and 9.3 for Sunday

X Factor hasn't yet broken 9m exc +1 on a Saturday so far this series, it would be nice to see that happen this weekend.

Bootcamp is usually the most vunerable part of the competition ratings wise, but maybe the revamp this year will work in its favour - especially if there has been a certain amount of buzz around it in the last week.

Are we behind last year's ratings? I thought the show had exceeded 9M. I must just be thinking of the inc +1 figures.

It had exceeded 9m without +1 on Sundays. Not quite on Saturdays - the closest it's come is the launch show (8.78m).

If they play it very well, it could even edge towards 10m but I'm overpredicting on that sense.

It was a Friday, and last night's rating was pretty much in line for previous Friday starts.

Strictly has a later start tonight compared to previous Saturday starts. It was at 18:30 last year, compared to 19:00 tonight. Strictly did marginally beat X Factor for its launch show a few weeks ago.

X Factor does have a few things in its favour - it doesn't clash with it tonight for any more than five minutes. It finishes at 21:50 though - it'll be interesting to see if people are willing to stick with it until then.

Gary tweeted at the time that it was the most intense, exciting X Factor session ever. I would hope it translates well to TV.

XFactor will get one of its worst ratings of the series so far tonight. Critics are saying the new bootcamp twist is cruel and ruining the enjoyment. Also SCD is back and will damage XFs first 5mins and Xf is finishing too late tonight. Expect low rating.

Finishes of even 22:00/22:10 haven't harmed X Factor in the past.

How am I ruining it for you? I'm just telling you what will most likely happen in the ratings tonight. Most years bootcamp rates lower than auditions. The same trend will probably happen today and result in XFactor getting one of its worst ratings of the series so far. This is the realistic outlook to tonights ratings, you need to stop being so optimistic and be more realistic about XFs ratings.

You'd be predicting something erratically high for The Voice, and you get overly excited whenever there's a surge of 20k.

Seeing as you hate X Factor, I don't think you're the right user to trust on being realistic.

Even if it drops, it's not the end of the world. It'll pick up again by judges houses. It usually does whenever it drops at bootcamp.

Ok, How about you be realistic and just say how well X Factor has been doing in the ratings saying well done to itv when they do well instead of critzing ITV every time.

My predictions are right most of the time. I don't predict erratically high for the Voice, in fact I sometimes have been accused of lowering expectations for the Voice. This new XF bootcamp twist might bring in added drama but that drama might be quite off putting for viewers. Watch the ratings come in tomorrow, you'll be disappointed Hassan.

People who watch X Factor, and there are a lot, should expect drama. It's the drama in the live shows which have given us peaks of 16m and so on.

It's almost like you are worried about us being positive about X Factor's ratings. Funny how you haven't mentioned anything about how stable it is this year, and that you haven't even posted in the Strictly ratings thread.

I personally don't think it'll be down to 7m. I may be wrong.

Xfactor ratings so far this year have been about the same as last year, in terms of comparing Saturday shows in 2013 vs 2012 and Sunday shows in 2013 v 2012. So its only matching last years series which was considered a flop at the time. With all the publicity, changes this series has had, I think Itv may have been hoping for better ratings. As of yet, no episode has had 10million yet.

Saturday shows have been consistently in the 8-9m range. Only one Saturday audition show broke 9m last year.

As for Sunday shows, it's well up.

The two Sunday audition shows last year averaged 7.9m and 9.7m respectively. They have been consistently in the 9m range this year.

ITV may have been hoping for better ratings, but I think they are happy with what it is getting so far. Ratings aren't just going to go up instantly.

EDIT: Oh, and it has broken 10m in the officials. I think ITV will be happy with that.

The officials include ITV HD, which we watch it on, and these have broken 10 million, I seem to remember them peaking at 11 something?

Anyway, there's a lot of buzz (such as on this forum) surrounding tonight's show and all the critics are doing is advertising it and making people want to tune in to check it out and see what they think - some may dislike it, but I think most won't...

It's either going to go one way or the other - a steady, to strong rating tonight and a much higher one tomorrow due to everyone talking about it and there being a bigger audience share... Or, more unlikely (but possible) people tune in tonight and don't tomorrow as they didn't like it.

I think they'd be better ditching this bit and just concentrating on the singing. The show is still in good health otherwise. OK I doubt it will ever be as big as it was 4 years ago, but 9 million is still very good and ITV should keep TXF going for another 3 series. Yes I can't stand it, but in ratings terms it's massive for ITV and makes £ 50 million a year for them.
That £ 50 million no doubt pays for the stuff I like on ITV like The Dales and Catchphrase.

Only you think that ITV were hoping for better ratings. Most other people thought it would go down even more.

Are you joking? So because the twist is cruel people are going to switch off in droves...you overestimate people's niceness. The more controversy/interest/hype the more the XF is going to gain viewers who want to be entertained. At the same time as showing us lots more singing this year, the show's going to be doing quite well.
