36% says it all... some years ago they had around the 40-45% of the audience every day.

The bad weather is exactly showing that last week's results weren't because of the good weather.
What was the reason that it was the lowest launch for 6 years then?

I would presume it is because of the summer holidays. The ratings should be higher next week, if not then there's a bit of a crisis.

Very low, and there's no buzz about it at all it seems.

Speaking personally I watched 5 minutes of the launch with Gary walking out reading his unconvincing lines about searching for the greatest talent in the Universe, remembered Frankie and then thought I really can't be bothered with this again for now.

I'll tune in for the live shows mainly to see how much of a parody it makes of itself this year, but I think the format is just exhausted really.

I remember his speech about the Olympic spirit blah blah blah, these auditions were filmed well before the games and before anyone would have guessed they were too be that success.

Surely with all the adverts and press coverage there is always some kind of buzz?

You'd think so, but I've seen a whole 2 people mention it on my Facebook the last 2 weeks.

The bubble has burst and it's also stopped being cool to talk about, it happened with Big Brother as well.

Well, there's been a bit of buzz this week about Lucy Spraggan and her song being #2 on iTunes before being removed, maybe that could have some kind of effect on the ratings?

On average it needs a 40%+ share, even 50% for the peak if they are lucky (BGT in 2009 managed it a LOT of times, but the TV audience must have been quite small back then if they are getting +50% for around 11 million).

And they need some decent high profile guests during the lives, that is sure to boost ratings. The sixth live show of last year when 1D was on boosted the average a bit, to around 11-12 million when consistently the lives were rating at 9-10 million on average.

According to the ratings thread, it averaged 8.57m, no news on whether that was with or without +1.

All the ratings this series:

Sat 18/08: 8.09m (39.4%), +1: 616k (2.9%) = 8.71m inc +1
Sat 26/08: 8.40m (36.1%), +1: 475k (2.2%) = 8.88m inc +1
Sat 01/09: 8.15m (35.0%), +1: 422k (1.9%) = 8.57m inc +1

So not good for XF, and the BBC1 competition is bound to increase.

This thread is absolutely dead!

I can understand why the ratings are down. I was considering not watching last year but basically gave it another chance, it let me down last year so I'm not interested enough this year to bother. I'll watch the Judges houses and I did watch it on Saturday because I was having my tea and there wasn't anything else on to watch.

I think it's because it's still the holidays. A lot of people are away on holiday. I think starting this week when there are shows on Saturday AND Sunday, the ratings could be much better. We should be seeing 40%+ shares, nearing 50%.

XF has always started during the school holidays, so that has nothing to do with the ratings slump.

The bubble has burst. End of.

Well, the other reason could be that people needed a rest from TV after the Olympics.

Or as DMN said in the ratings thread it has gotten a bit stale and same old program. And as Andy23 said its going to be a program that gets 8-9m now rather then 10-12m.

This is what I did last year, gave up on the auditions and started watching the live shows about half way in...saw what was going on with Frankie and how awful Gary Barlow was...and that's my lot, no more X Factor for me. I feel quite free and liberated.

Not that either, the same amount of people are still generally watching tv...if XF was getting 8 million but a 50% share then it could be down to tv fatigue

I think the Sunday episode this week will be helped from the lead-in from Corrie (which will be moved to Saturday due to something on on Friday).
