It won't drop that far, and it won't be axed any time soon - it's still the one of the biggest shows on UK TV. Fact.

It's all about Sunday for X Factor. If that drops to these levels then worry. It hasn't and usually hits 9m at least. Clashing with Strictly doesn't help.

I think that half the problem is that hardly any of the acts has the likabilty factor so there is nobody to really care about. They shoulsd have put Paul and Melanie through as they seemed likable.

As for tonight's show I can see that having less viewers as well. There is no suspence now that Shelley has been announced as already in the bottom two as no matter how well she performs tonight the judges will still vote her out as the sing off is never voted on that one off performance.

OP, why make another thread about this when there was (and still is) an almost identical thread about this topic right at the top of the forums? Is this something you do regularly?

It's disappointing but I've got to the point where I don't care. I've been looking at the ratings for every episode, but I think I'm going to stop now... It sort of puts a downer on the show, which is annoying because I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm going to leave the ratings to ITV, and the enjoyment to me I think this series has been one of the best series period. I love the line up of contestants and judges, it's great.

I think, that, more than many issues is turning the public off in droves.

I can't think of a single person I've spoken to who says...

"I can't wait to watch the X-Factor tonight...it's so moving when they fall apart in front of the camera."

Mercifully, last night's effort, was blub-free.

Letting go those two as well as Paul and perhaps Brick City is coming back to bite the producer's backsides.

ITV played silly buggers with the scheduling last Sunday. Good job X Factor was longer than Strictly so it bumped up the average. Many viewers watch both and don't want clashes.

If they were worried about ratings, why do they clash with SCD? I watch SCD as I prefer it and then turn over for X-Factor but missed the first 30 minutes. I guess a lot of people do this.

Do you think XF may need a shock exit or controversy?

To me all it means is 7 million people got up to have a wee or make a cup of tea or muted the ads. Why advertising is so important these days is beyond me.

You guys do understand these ratings are extremely unreliable? They take about 5000 households (who know that their views matter by the way, they have special boxes) and use the data from those to calculate and average for over 65million people in the UK.

I personally don't like Strictly, I enjoy the lives for X factor but I don't care which gets more ratings.

Scientifically speaking, the data collected would not be reliable for some kind of social study.

Granted some shows will have their true appeal reflected i.e. X factor is one of the most watched. But the figures are wildly flawed.

It is a crisis though, three years ago this show was getting 11+ million viewers regularly. You can try and spin it however you like but something has gone badly wrong somewhere.

Just a few years ago X Factor was crushing Strictly, but now it's out rating the XF by about two million viewers.

They can't avoid clashing with it unless they want to finish at 10:40pm.

The voting twist is awful. In 2010 & 2011 when they teased the twists, everybody was speculating what it would be for the whole week and it resulted in high ratings for the first live shows. They should have done another wildcard twist this year.

That doesn't matter, this is the data used to assess the viewership of a tv programme. Therefore if this data is low a show will get axed, they won't say "Oh the data is wrong". Advertisers use this data to decide where to advertise and the TV stations use the data to set advertising rates. Therefore it is a measure and it is important to commercial tv stations, regardless of its flaws. Also it is statistically significant because the sample is large and a cross section of the 65million living in the UK. Additionally the same people are used over the time periods so it can track if they have switched off or are continuing to watch/newly watching a tv programme. So although not perfect it is relevant.
