It's low compared to previous years no question, but the ratings seem to be sticking to 8-9 million this year; I think people are just going to have to get used to that this year.

I personally don't think it's the end of the world

Not good considering this time last year, it was pulling in 10million +

Simon is seen tonight telling the judges their categories, that should pull the ratings up a bit.

i don't think the ratings were that bad last night as im not really a fan of first boot camp day where they just show snippets of performances etc.

i think with solo performances tonight viewers will be much higher. i think tonight will average 9.5 million with a peak of 11 million

Well this time last year is when the ratings started to decline, live shows were getting 9 million, sometimes below. So we will see what happens. I have a feeling the live shows will rate higher than last years, the hopefuls are a bit more promising to last years lets admit.

Then again, there is the Simon cameo. I will be surprised if tonight doesn't peak at at least 11-12m.

I wonder if it can rebound from averages of 8 million to averages of at least 11-12 million, and stay like that during the course of the lives and continue increasing and at least have a higher peak for the final than last year (which peaked at 15.27m).

And the weather's utter pants over half the country at least. Still think it's going to struggle to hit the heights of yesteryear but 8-9 million ain't a catastrophe in a multichannel era. ITV are clearly hoping as the Autumn draws on the nation switches on regularly to a pattern of the singing soap at 7.30/8.00 followed by Downton soap as a ratings double lock.

i think ratings will fall when the live shows start, cos if the spoilers are true then there are only a hand full ot real talent and most of them seems to come from the overs

Well I won't switch on The X Factor, Saturday is for The Thick Of It and MOTD and for Sunday I rather watch E4 or BBC4

Fair enough, though with a little Sky plus you can do XFactor, MOTD and the the Thick of It, easy

It's just a little bit dull.

The producers desperate attempts to point us towards the usual suspects, being patronised by being told that certain acts are fantastic, when at best are mediocre (groups especially) and a judging panel that is just insipidly dull.

Barlow looks constantly bored, Tulisa comes across as dense, Louis is scripted and Nicole looks out of place.

Even Dermot seems to be phoning it in

ITV1's X Factor peaked with 10.8m (av 9.4m) last night - figures include +1

Slightly better but still not as good as last year or the week before (which peaked at 11.2m including +1).

I would assume the hopefulls don't have much to say now. There's only so long you can hash out the same excuses. The ratings aren't going to get better. They're likely going to stay hovering around 10m and under.

The judges houses would at least peak at 11-12m (even including +1).

And I was close, close to 11m.

Let's see how close i'll be for judges houses

The Sunday episode always rates well, last years peaked at nearly 13m, and the year before (2010) peaked at 16.6m

TBH, I think one of the big issues (constant ad breaks, sob stories and 'samey' auditions aside) is the panel. There's no-one on that panel very controversial, insightful and/or entertaining. It's a little bit "meh."

Tulisa tends to give OK critique but is a bit of a marmite figure and nowhere near as big as Cheryl Cole was after she had been on the panel for a year. Louis is the same-old-same-old, we all know what to expect from him now. Barlow is a bit flat, 'safe', and unexciting, and Nicole is just a big yawn.

The panel doesn't feel as dynamic as when Simon, Dannii and Cheryl (as much as she irritated me) filled those roles. Then there was an interesting dynamic from the four of them, with Dannii tending to give good critique, Cheryl being the sweetheart, and Cowell being Cowell.

Last year perhaps they were given more of a chance to bed in, but now people find them pretty bland. As a show, it went downhill in the ratings, but the choice of judges for The Voice felt a bit more inspired and insightful, with a good breadth of experience. Also I think with Cowell away in America it's lost something: whilst I am certainly not a fan, the show is his baby and it feels weird having four props as his surrogates without the man himself being there.

Just my two penneth.
