Chris Parker leaves EastEnders
The BBC have announced that Chris Parker (Spencer Moon) will not be returning to the soap.
> BBC Press Office It sounds as if he will not film any more scenes and his last appearance will be in January 2005. The character will not be recast. |

That's sad. I hope the guy gets everything sorted and finds happiness in his life.

As you all know on here I’m not his biggest fan, But In light of that recent event all I’m going to say on the matter is – I am quietly pleased.
Just a note of interest but next year Albert Square could be a confusing place for viewers with about 1/3 of the cast leaving in the first quarter of the year and all those new characters set to replace them arriving. Also Letitia Dean could be set to leave , so just who else will have left by April 2004. This has to be one of the biggest character culls since Paul Marquess took over The BIll and Family Affairs. And one last point; with Tariq, Ronnie, Kareena, Spencer and Vicki leaving a large chunk of the teens are going, which is good to hear because that means more variety. |

Well put. Just cos he aint the greatest actor in world, nobody deserves to be so unhappy that they take those sort of measures. |

Hmm, feel sorry for the guy, he's obviously got some serious problems for a lad his age. Still glad he's gone though.

He's not got that many problems. Kicked my butt at pub quiz last week. Taking him on again tonight, I hope. #

Feel sorry for him but it does look like the rumours of him being axed at the time were true.

I feel sorry for him. Seems weird though because Alfie and Nana Moon are staying. Maybe he's goes to spain to see Kelly?

It was mooted on Popbitch sometime around his suicide attempt/cry to help that he did it not due to the rumours surrounding his sexuality but because he'd just been axed. His cry for help came before the press got hold of his sacking, hence the news has been released now, a few weeks later, with him well on the road to recovery now.

I think that puts paid to the theories speculating that he did it so he'd keep his job after KH arrived. I don't particularly care for the character and i know little about the actor, but as someone else said earlier, I hope he can move on from all of this and find some peace in his life
On a practical note, I'm glad the character isn't being recast, from what I can tell, Spencer and Nana Moon were introduced as devices to aid the audience perception of Alfie as being more than just an ex-con and someone they could warm to and trust. With the arrival of the two new Moons (geddit??? ) we should get to see yet another side to Alfie and find out more about his past and the character of Spencer seems more like a deadweight as he seems to have his course - he doesn't fit in with the other "lads" on the show, his girlfriend has gone (although bring her back I say!) and he seems to be more of a supporting cast member that they can't find storylines to attach him to, than someone who could carry the weight of a story himself. Hope they give him a happy reason for buggering off though

Is it true Letitia Dean is leaving the show for good??
If so how are the scripwriters going to explain her absence when Den is killed off?? As far as i remember the reason Sharon came back last time was to bring Angies body back to be buried so it would be a bit silly not to have her back for Dens funeral... Eastenders is certainly going to be a different show over the next few months if all the rumoured departures and axings are true. |

Some people on this site have been particularly nasty about Chris and his character in the past. Some of you have personally attacked him (like you actually know him) which I think is unfair. I remember one thread slated him for being skinny, gay and spotty amongst other things (thread since removed). I imagine that most of the people on this site are not average in any respect.
To slate his acting abilities based on the character he plays is also a little unfair. His character was meant to be a nervous, geek like person - that doesn't make him a geek. Off set clips I have seen of him show him in a good light. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but some of the things said here in the past are no different from bullying. People get hurt when nasty things are said. I hope he has a successful and happy life in whatever he does. |

I think most people will see it as a good thing that he's gone but sad the way it had to happen.
I wonder what the BBC Teens/ Eastenders message board are saying. |

Another victim of Britain's nasty red top toilet-paper tabloids and the no-brains no-marks who spend their money to buy and "read" them.

I would have preferred it to happen in different circumstances, but I am very happy he is going. Whether it was more that the character was badly developed (this is after all the team that ruined Den Watts), Spencer was annoying and pointless. He was a character I didn't think we'd see the back of for years, so this is definitely good news.

I for one am very happy that Spencer is leaving EE! Chris Parker is an awful actor in my opiniom and Spencer is a rubbish characrer.
Like a poster above said, with the other characters that are beign axed, quite a few of the teens will have gone sometime next year

Again you are also right about Vicky and Sharon not attending their father's funeral - How will that be written in and Yes it is a bit stupid - Prehaps theres not much left of Den to bury. |

I'm in agreement with most - sorry that the actor is having personal problems and wish him all the best, but glad to see the back of Spencer from EE.. it seems KH shares many of my (and others) opinions of which characters are worth keeping and which aren't, which can only be good new for Enders fans!

Getting rid of the teens would be the worst possible move; I can't see what some of you posters mean.

46 characters in total, 14 going, and more are going to, they'll be no cast left by new year.
