does anyone think Melissa Suffield aka the old lucy beale could have handled these current scenes alot better then Heti Bywater

i always feel like shes over acting and the emotion comes across to false, while Melissa it came naturally too and she was stroppy but had a sensitive side

any thoughts?

Yes. Out of all the Recasts Lucy is the only one that hasnt worked for me. Ben and Lauren work very well and in fact the characters have improved alot.

Lucy is terrible now and Heti is not that good of an Actress plus the Posh accent seems weird seeing as she's lived in Walford all herself and her dad is Ian Beale

Yes I think she would have been a lot better. Whereas all the other recasts seemed to have improved the character e.g. Lauren i just don't think that has happened with Lucy.

No. Melissa could barely handle the scenes where she was the "rebelling teenager who hates daddy",and her attempts at emotion were a travesty sometimes. Not 100% bad, but far from Hetti's performance.

And how does Hetti have a posh accent? She just doesn't have a broad East End accent, nor does Peter or did Old Lucy. Not everyone is like something from Only Fools.

Did i say they were? Hetti Does have a Posh accent. When talking on the Radio a few weeks back you could clearly hear it and now it's showing during her scenes.

Hetti is terrible and that scene in the cafe last night was a joke and bought down what was a decent episode.

New Lucy never convinced me as Lucy. For me it is always Melissa Suffield. As others said, other recasts so far have been worked for me,but new Lucy doesn't.

Melissa could have definitely handled these scenes far better.

People at home watching it will me just went seriously it was terrible. Im not one for slating EastEnders unless i feel the need to and that scene well she didn't even look angry or upset.

Yes i think she would have been a lot better

This. Bring Melissa back.
I think she should come back. as i said the Characters of Lauren and Ben are much better and both Characters have become much more popular under these new actors but Lucy is different. She was pretty popular and now more people Dislike her.

This admiration of Melissa on this forum is ridiculous. The actress could only do one emotion which is being angry. She ruined the character for me. But Hetti has brought new layers to the character of Lucy and she is a very good actress probably the best teen actress the show has had in years.

NU LUCY IS THE BEST!

I prefer Hetti's portrayal of the character. She's given Lucy more depth than she previously had.

Melissa is Lucy Beale in the same way Steve Mcfadden is Phil Mitchell. Ben and Lauren were hardly popular and hardly owned their roles under the old actors but Lucy worked well under Melissa and she made lucy her own. I don't think she works well on screen with Ian or Bobby tbh and the great interacton between her and Christian seems to have gone too.

Whilst it took me a short while to adjust to Hetti playing Lucy Beale, I am now totally at peace with her performance and all the rather silly niggles fans of Melissa have used regarding her weight, accent etc etc. I think she is a decent actor who is growing into the role.

Melissa wasn't the best actress in the world but she's much better than Hetti IMO and would have done a much better job than she did last night.

It's not only about the acting though.

Melissa had a much better on-screen chemistry with Adam, than Hetti does.

I think Kirkwood cast the wrong actress for the role. She is not Lucy Beale in the slightest - but then I suspect he wanted to mould her into his version of Lucy. I find it hard to believe they are the same character, even when she is being annoying.

I prefer Hetti if I'm honest. Old Lucy was just shouty shouty.

It was said Adam wasn't really happy with the recast because he and Melissa got on very well on and off screen

Lucy went to Devon for over a year. She left a troubled spoilt bitch and came back more mature and a young woman. It happens. It'a character progression.

She still is a spoilt bitch
Mature? She didn't want to 'Hang Out' with Lauren when she was with Whitney and not to mention the way she's so childish when things cant go her own way. I don't think it's progression i think her character has taken steps backwards.

In what way? She is running three businesses to look after her little brother. She has matured a lot since she left for Devon.

New Lucy is so much better than the old one. Melissa Suffield was average at best, at worst just plain annoying.

How can you compare Melissa to Steve? Steve was right for the role of Phil because he could act. Melissa couldn't.

The interaction between Lucy and Christian stopped whilst Suffield was still in the role. They barely interacted after Lucy was caught blackmailing Syed. But I find it odd that you would raise this criticism when it seems like they have finally remembered Christian and Lucy's relationship in recent scenes.

You can't really compare Melissa Suffield to Steve McFadden. Suffield played Lucy for six years and for a chunk of that time (2004-2006) Lucy was an insignificant child character. She had a couple of dramatic years if that mid 2007-early 2008 after which Lucy's storylines were patchy. She blackmailed Syed for a few weeks and had an abortion in 2010. I agree she was a more prominent character than Lauren and Ben but the fact she had so little to do in the two years before leaving and the fact she was away for over a year makes it easier to accept Hetti in the role.

There was a thread on here when the
recast was annouced.

What i am saying is Melissa owned the character of lucy and interacted well with her freinds and Family.
