OP I totally see what you mean personality wise and in the way people have instantly warmed to Laura Trott. I like her and Stacey and definitely can see some similarities. I thought it was pretty obvious you weren't referring to their achievements.

Just when I think there is a general understanding of the OP's point of view when starting this thread, someone else comes along and completely misses the point This thread is in the SHOWBIZ forum after all, it's unbelievable that people have taken such offense at it

God, I never imagined that such an innocently intended thread could create such a reaction. I now realise it was a piss poor title but, jeez, where do some of the detractors get off with such righteous indignation?

It actually was an interesting comparison. People still misjudge on superficial things like accents, and bizarrely seem to have trouble with people who speak fast or who look giggly. The whole point of Stacey on IAC was that the uninformed stereotyping was blown apart completely by her performance on IAC - she was one of smartest people they have had, one of the toughest at tasks, and one of the best people with words there among a cast of top actors and comics. People often miss the fact that Laura has to be tactically brilliant to do what she does too.

The anti- X factor argument doesn't hold up either. There's no reason why the X factor shouldn't attract great singers - and every reason why the best rarely win because the voters and producers want other things - like comedy or male looks.. Stacey is a very good singer - coming third tells you more about the show than her singing. The difference is that Laura has a showcase that allows her to compete on a level playing track, while singer's fates are decided by the likes of Simon Cowell - regardless of their own efforts.

The two points in bold sum SS up for me.

She is obviously a lot brighter than she makes herself out to be, so why put that ridiculous voice on when a camera is present? Whenever she'd finish a performance on the live shows of XF, her voice was more put on than ever - to me, that makes her fake.

Secondly, SS has got a brilliant singing voice, but has chosen the easy option to fame by appearing on tacky quiz shows, reality shows and being the face of Iceland.

If singing was her dream, she would have landed a recording contract if her heart was in it - just look at Rebecca Ferguson.
