whats "Background data" ?”
"Background data" means it is downloading emails to your phone without you opening the messages. So even if you never used email on the phone, a copy of all your inbox has been downloaded. This is very useful if you want to read emails on a plane or somewhere else with no internet connection, or if you just want to avoid any delay when you click to open a message, but it does use bandwidth.
You probably have your settings either as "push email" or checking the server very frequently. You can change this to once an hour, or whatever you prefer.
You should also have the option of limiting how much of each message is downloaded in background. This means that you will have the first page of text "in your phone", with the option to download the rest if you need to. This is very useful when there are very long email chains of messages where 99% of the text has already been received in a previous message, and someone has just added a comment and hit "reply all".
Finally, you should have the option t control how your phone treats attachments. Whether none, all, or only limited sized attachments are downloaded. Again, each option has its advantages and disadvantages, it really depends on your priorities. Try setting it not to download attachments in background, you will still have the option to download them when you open the message if you want to (and you are online).
With Android you have a huge amount of flexibility, but you do need to set it up how you want it to work.
