Libre Office 3.6.0 released

Windows GB download
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/...&version=3.6.0

other platforms/languages

New features

detailed changes & fixes

Release notes

This release is bit-for-bit identical to the 3.6.0 Release Candidate 4, so you don't need to download or reinstall if you have that version already.

If you update from an earlier version, spellchecking might be broken. In this case, the following workaround helps:
  • On Linux, in a terminal window enter "rm -r ~/.config/libreoffice/3/user/extensions"
  • On Mac OS X, in a Terminal window enter "rm -r ~/Library/Application\ Support/LibreOffice/3/user/extensions"
  • On Windows, in a Command Prompt window enter "rmdir /q /s %appdata%\LibreOffice\3\user\extensions"
  • After that, please restart LibreOffice twice.

or just uninstall prog & help, reboot and then reinstall the new versions

Well that was a disaster, looks like a lot of people including me are getting InvalidRegistryException warning when trying to open LibreOffice 3.6 after installing

http://ask.libreoffice.org/question/...r-install-why/

http://ask.libreoffice.org/question/...ownloaded-but/

worse still, they've known about the problem since June yet released 3.6 without fixing it, it's shaken my confidence in the project TBH have they got Microsoft saboteurs in there, or is it a case of too many cooks, and no clear leadership

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51252#c35

it looks like you have to show hidden files & folders, locate your AppData folder on C: drive, go to Roaming>Libre Office, rename or delete user profile, uninstall, and delete a config folder I can't even find.....

OK so I found the config folder within the Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice directory, it may be in the 67 posts on this bug it mentions somewhere specific files need to be deleted, others can be saved, well I didn't bother and just deleted the whole thing after uninstalling LO & the helppack, rebooted, reinstalled, and, guess what it still doesn't work just shows the 3.6 flash screen which says its loading various components and uses increasing amounts of CPU whilst getting nowhere, not happy

Oh, apparently this is expected behaviour, see comments 59-61 , absolutely useless, seems to me that 3.6 is not fit for public release, gonna try 3.5.6 pre release tomorrow.

Strange it seems some have the problem some not, supposedly something to do with extensions- anyway when I ran it this morning it was OK after a couple of starts. Still not good that they knew about this problem in June and still released it with the problem.

For anyone else with this problem it appears you just need to delete the Extensions subfolder of Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice or the equivalent in Windows XP/linux.

This is mentioned in the release notes: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/release-notes/

Is it worth all this trouble? I mean if you have Windows, you can get MS Office Home and Student for a good price and you get the best office package out there. In my experience the open source projects often suffer from not being polished/finished/tested enough.

It doesn't say anything about the program not starting at all unless you do it.

Why should it? It had installation instructions which you didn't follow.

Well LibreOffice costs zero... and doesn't have that ribbon. Reason enough for me!

might have been true years ago as a package (imo MS Office has never been the best) but today only advantage MS Office has is the integrated Outlook .. BUT .. that's not in home and student MSO so not so important & you can just set any email client you like as default anyhooz

I followed them perfectly thanks- it says "If you update from an earlier version, spellchecking might be broken"

I did not update from an earlier version, I uninstalled the old version first, and then it didn't start and gave an error, neither of which they mentioned but clearly knew about given that bug report back in June.

Well you pay with these troubles for not paying for it. Anybody can make a mistake, but a firm like MS has enough resources to deal with it quickly.

Not much point mentioning MS Office on a thread clearly aimed at existing Libre Office users. I use MS Office myself but no point banging on about it in such a thread.

If the thread was about office software in general that would be different. My two cents.

I am hardly banging on about it. Just saying sometimes it's worth paying for things.

I agree. But there's no hard and fast rule. Sometimes free or open source is usable and well-supported, sometimes not. But this also applies to paid software. With the latter I have higher expectations.

I had a problem with it not correctly interpreting conditional cell formatting.

Rolled back to 3.5.5.3 and all is well.

We're seeing a lot of software with shiny new UI / splash screens (maybe for Win 8?) and functionality being impaired.

That's Chrome, Libre Office and Secunia PSI all broken in the last fortnight. I might have begun to suspect my machine was at fault, but every software bug has proved to be exactly that.

Any reason why I should go with this over NeoOffice? I've found NeoOffice to be quite slow to start up and it often crashes when I shut down the machine without closing it first.
