SIM/MicroSIM

Hi there

This MAY sound like a stupid question, but I will ask away, after all DS is anonymous!!!!

I have been arguing with Three for over a month now, and they have offered a new phone to make up for their crap service and the fact they damaged my phone whilst it was in for repair.

Anyways, they sent me the phone today and it needs a MicroSIM and not a normal sized SIM. The SIM I have is the normal sized one.

In all reality, what do you think Three will do about this?

They will send you a micro sim if you ask. Sometimes they charge £5, however if you are a retention customer, or somebody that has had difficulty with them it's usually free.

Just ask them to send you a micro sim, it's normally free of charge.

Alternatively you can pop into one of their shops and pick one up, or get a phoneshop with a sim cutter. (Never tried the cutter thing so not 100% sure about that).

Why not?

Just go into a Three shop. They will cut it for free. It's easy to do. They use a proper little cutter.

My Son needed his normal sim done. Took then seconds.

Then go to another mobile shop/booth.

If you can't trust them to do something like this, then surely it goes you can't trust them even to send a new sim out, or to even provide a telephone service to you?

Just because one person some how damaged your phone, doesn't make ALL employees of Three idiots.

I don't trust Three and their employees at all. I have a long list of complaints against them. They lie, they accuse me of lying. They damaged my phone, then claimed I have damaged it. I could go on, but it would take me HOURS to list everything they have done wrong.....

If I take it somewhere else to be cut into shape and it goes wrong, who would be liable? Me. So, nope, won't be doing it. Up to Three to sort out, but chances are they will screw up AGAIN

You know the guys in the store don't repair the phones as well right. Plus if they cut it wrong they just give you a brand new micro sim on the spot, no questions asked, no fee. Same number and everything.

Talk about taking things too far. I've had bad experiences with BT but it doesn't mean i have a go at everyone who works for BT.

Cutting a standard SIM down to micro SIM size is a easy. You do not need and special cutters. It can be done with a bit on intelligence and a Stanley knife (preferably a scalpel) a nail file and ruler. It takes no longer than a few minutes.

Anyone can do it if they try.

I don't see what the OP expects to happen if they won't deal with Three or with anyone else?

Solution - go into Three store and they will either cut down sim card (they use a punch, it's idiot proof - I've cut many sims with mine and all have been fine). If they don't do this they will give you a microsim and then you transfer your number and account details to the new sim (if you were an Orange customer you can do this from their web portal!).

Not all Three staff are useless - I've just rejoined them after a year away (and as pointed out, the staff in the shop don't repair phones!)

I havent said that I won't deal with Three (tied in with them for another 10 months so I have to), I am simply saying that on current experience whereby then have damaged my current phone, I don't trust them to cut the Sim card I have.

I was asking if there would be another way Three could resolve this issue, and I have been informed by helpful posters that they are likely to provide me with a MicroSim to use. I have never experienced this issue before, so did not know what to expect.

I am well aware that Three are a large organisation, however due to the ongoing problems I have had with them, their 12 members of staff that I have dealt with (both in store, on line, on the phone and via e-mail) have displayed less than desireable service.

You will have to deal with three one way or another if you want a micro sim, the other alternative is to go down the do it your self route and either get someone to cut the sim for you, or ( if they do it) get a three store to do it.

I would also strongly advise you to get a micro sim to normal sim card adaptor, should the need arise to use your sim card in another phone.

As for three, its well know their service isnt that great ( hello welcom to tree )althouygh improvements have been made, but on the flip side of things it offers good value for money.

you don't trust them but plan on staying on as a customer ? Strange....

BTW, my mate bought a sim cutter of ebay and works fine. Even came with a couple of holders that allow microsim to be put back into a phone with a normal sized sim.

I don't understand the big deal about a sim getting damaged when cut, when the op is going to ask Three for a new sim anyway. Three wouldnt know either way if it got damaged, you could try getting it cut, if that fails, then phone them up (plead ignorance) and ask for a new micro sim.

it all seems like a big deal over nothing

If you had asked three it would have been delivered by now, if you had got it cut you would have been using you new phone within 5 mins.

Either way I think your causing yourself more difficulties.

You don't trust them with their own property?

If they cut the SIM and it stops working, it's their problem to sort out.
