Downloading novels on the Kindle

Can this be done from outside the Uk or should it all be done before one flies out of the UK?

Also, how long does the battery last if one were to use it constantly?

Thanks

The general consensus here seems to be that yes, you can, by connecting to the local WiFi. Not tried it myself, though.

Battery lasts simply ages - about a month with normal use. but take a charger anyway

Just ensure you turn the wifi back off again when you've finished downloading, and you'll get plenty of life out of it. Mine easily lasts over a week, even with several hours of reading a day by the pool.

Yes, you can download from anywhere in the world with a wifi connection. However it is monitored and after several downloads you may be asked to confirm that you live in the UK by the looks,

no problem with any public domain stuff. since this is not via your Amazon account. download in mobi format directly from project gutenberg or web archive texts. any mobi or txt file will directly download anywhere within wireless range .....

3G is not much better than other devices. wi fi will as said above last longer since its very close to the trasmitter and uses far less power ......

if u dont use wireless at all, then the Amazon claim is probably a bit optimistic but youll certainly approach it.

to charge outside the uk youll need a USB charger with appropriate power supply plug. the uk one supplied will probably work anywhere with appropriate adaptor plug since its SMPS power unit rated for european 230v and will probably be quite happy on 110v. at least, trying that out will do no harm!

... thinking about it .... yes u should be ok anywhere in world for downloading. if u registered with amazon uk using a uk registered credit card then any purchases will be on your amazon uk account and i dont think Amazon will mind at least for a few weeks ...... they are well aware that people go on holidays, business trips, etc .......

The kindle will download from anywhere in the world so long as it has a network connection.

The Kindle will always download from the store to which it is registered regardless of your location

My brother in law bought my Mum in law her Kindle and it is registered to his account so he buys the books for her and gets them downloaded to her device.

He lives in Switzerland and she lives in the UK so it must work. She does not possess a computer and doesn't have a clue what WiFi is!! All she knows is that the books appear by magic!!

She is 89 years old!

In which case it must be a 3G model, since she's unlikely to have access to WiFi without knowing about it
