Favorite soap opening credits of all time?
EE has always been pretty exciting, just as the beats start and the panning out over the map of East London, especially if we're in for an exciting episode. How long has it been since one of them?
I find Corrie's dreadful, its so boring and completely uninspired. I always throw around my idea of there being scenes from the show's history in the cobbles of the street as the camera pans down it, with a full orchestra doing the theme. Somebody please do that. The Emmerdale opening was exciting in 1999. The orchestra for it is wonderful, its exciting, sweeping and epic. Its now nearly 2005 for gods sake. Time for a change. I always like the Family Affairs 97-99 credits, when it was a guitar, bass and drums and video camera scenes of the Harts and their friends. It was really exciting. The 99-02 followup was great too. But I loved the 99-01 credits with characters in against a white background - it was absolutely brilliant. Then FA tried to copy EE and Corrie in look and structure it went down from there. I love the Young and the Restless current opening, absoltuely beautiful theme, the white character shots, so classy. Of course, the All My Children opening is just superb, perhaps my overall favorite - all those flying pictures! |

I like opening credits of:
*Sunset Beaches-quite jazzy/sexy theme tune/credits *Neighours- Fun, Nice pictures, colourful, brilliant theme tune *Home and Away- Brillant setting(natural) and shows all characters in a beautiful way/good theme tune, bit overproduced tune. *Brooksides- nice pictures, contemp and bold and another good theme tune, emphasises area surrounding soaps setting(imagery/pictures)well paced I find ee ones dull, I like corrie's but being a teen Emmerdales/Corrie's seem bit old fashioned and bit boring. The Crossroads remake ones where quite impressive. |

The character was shown in all three screens. Each showing them doing something different.

I cannot stand the Corrie titles, or the music. Dull and miserable. Yes it's iconic now, but a change is going to be needed eventually, I'm sure of it.
The Emmerdale theme was a brilliant update, I still love it to bits, and the credits are fine EXCEPT for those people. It's very fast-paced and dramatic, just those people need to go. The current FA one is nice and snappy, love how it shows all the locations by skimming over them quickly before briefly pausing. The theme is catchy and surprisingly memorable. Certainly the best all-round opening credits of any British soap at the moment I reckon. EE is fine, the theme doesn't need changing, and there's not much you can do with the opening titles either. I'm very bored of them, but what else can they do bar changing the thnig entirely? I'm sorry but I think Neighbours' opening tune has been dire for years, it's so horrible and wishy-washy. The best one was the jazzy-ish theme from the early-mid 90s, and I loved the colourful titles. It was quite a dramatic sounding theme too, I especially loved how it kicked in at the end of an episode, "da-da-da, da-da, da-daaaa...Neeeeighbours" etc, lol. That probably made no sense but I get what I mean :P. It was full of energy, and had a happy but kinda "serious" vibe too. It was just perfect for a soap! Obviously the original is the most remembered, but that was by far and away the best for me. |

Visually, the titles in Corrie aren't that good (I preferred the last lot) but the music is fine as it is. Look at the uproar when they tried to change EastEnders' tune. I can't even begin to imagine what would happen if they even attempted to change Corrie's. I'd join the protests.

I like Eastenders, it's so original. I think maybe they should modify it a little though, the current opening titles were made for the millennium and included the dome as it was anticipated that it would be a treasured new landmark.
Hopefully they'll introduce a new opening sequence next feb when they celebrate their 20th bday. Johnny |

Corrie's are good BUT whoever designed them should have visited the set first - when they added those fake houses behind the Corrie St row, they should have included that rediculous railway bridge next to the Rovers (which has never made any sense) It can't be seen from the air making it look silly - also that tram should not be seen crossing the other bridge - unless they add tram noises into the episodes like EE do.
EastEnders - well, Alan Jeapes, I salute you. He & Simon May worked close together designing the music & credits for EE - on the current map, after taking the thousands of photo's to create the mossaic (sp), he had to computer generate the Dome in as it hadn't been finished - the Dome's builders gave him plans of what it would be like and he added it in from that. I wouldn't want to see those credits changed. I remember gossip going around once that you could see The Madonna in the 1993 - 99 map - personally I could never find it myself... |

I like Corrie's but it could do with updating, for example having shots of Victoria Street (i think), the street with the shops on anyway. The theme is fine and shouldn't be changed!
My other favourites are: The Bold and the Beautiful 2004- as it is just pure brilliance, and the actual titles are fantastic and really show that it is all back to fashion again ![]() The Young and the Restless is has the classiest theme and titles around. 2 other favourites are All My Children 2004 and Guiding Light's 50th anniversary opening in 2002 as it was just so majestic! |

Come on it's got to be Days of Our Lives with the hourglass, fantastic music and the voice-over "like sands through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives." Tick, tick, tick, tick. Brilliant!

Yeah, the Dynasty titles were great. I also loved the Knots Landing opening with sand castles and Falcon Crest titles were always very colourful

LOL! , i must admit I do champion FA on these boards because I think it sometimes gets a little overlooked. I have to say that the current title sequence - and music score, are very good. Not only good, but really thought through... the logo of Family Affairs is surrounded by a circle "the family circle", now when you watch the titles see how that circle reference follows through. You start at the London eye, camera pans in a circular fashion through the streets of London, onto 'stanley st' then watch the little kid on his bike, round and round the lamp post as the camera stops panning around and up pops the logo - finished neatly by the circle around the logo. As for the theme tune - already mentioned on another thread, it's one of the best especially the current version, and like the audio bed thing at the start as well!! |

![]() I do love FA's opening and theme, its definitely one of the best, if not the best UK soap theme/sequence IMO. |

Corrie's are great; they should never be changed!
Over the years I've also liked the intros to Dallas, Dynasty (& The Colbys?) and Sons & Daughters. |

i have a few questions about emmerdales opening sequence, in it there is a woman who is getting a good slap off some one.
1) who was getting slapped? 2) who was doing the slapping? 3) what did she do to get the slap? 4) did she deserve the slap? |

Which is totally cheesy and tacky!! I remember those Emmerdale titles comnig on for the first time at the end of 1998 and sitting astounded in PURE horror, cringing at how awful it was. Took me a while to get over them!!
I still can't accept them, they need to go now! The only trouble is, I worry that a change in credits will mean a complete cleanout, including the rest of the credits and themetune. Fine if it turns out good, but the fact is they are perfect for now except those black and white people! |
