Wathing Corrie kids tonight when Ken Barlow seemingly went into the Rovers, yet it looked like a different bar? Was this a real bar they were in or is the Rovers getting a rather modernised makeover?

It was the real Rovers on the Corrie street outdoor lot as far as I could see. The inside one seen on screen is the studio set - as you know and love it, this set we saw tonight would only be seen from outside & maybe a bit of wall if the door was opened.

When I last visited the set in 1998, they were using the outdoor Rovers as a "make your own episoide" area where you could be super imposed into an episode. I think since they closed the tours down it looks like they have turned it into a real bar - maybe for the cast during breaks, maybe for VIP's/confrences?

Good show that were tonight, extremely interesting - rare you will see these words typed under my username, but erm....well done ITV

No the pub we saw is located in a different part of the studios. They made it look as if they went inside the Rovers. To my knowledge there has only been scene filmed from inside the Rovers on the outdoor set- that was during the live episode and the camera was pointing out the door. I doubt there is anything behind the façade. As you rightly say all other scenes are filmed in the indoor studio which is actually located behind the viaduct!

Im pretty sure when they went into the Rovers last night they DID actual go into the real Rovers that is there on the street, not another one in a different part of the studios because from what we saw, the interior exactly fitted the exterior (.i.e. when they went inside they had to go through another set of doors and they were there inside as well and there was no dart board). So it looks like they have actually got a bar inside the Rovers that we see outside for the cast and grew to go in.

The interior of the Rovers that was used last night on 'Kids from Coronation Street' is part of the old 'Granada Studio Tours' which closed down some years ago. This was a real working pub and you could buy drinks in there, though it wasn't an exact copy. To see some exterior pictures of the pub used last night check out my website here and click on 'Coronation Street' and 'New Set'. The pub can be seen in pictures 7, 8 and 9 on the right of the pictures.

Are you sure they went in that one though? It would make sense for there to be a separate pub for the tour but the one on the actual street must have been used last night as it makes more sense and the interior all fitted.

It's called 'Television'. They just cut from the outdoor set to the indoor 'Tours' one. Anyone who's ever been down the street will tell you it's tiny and I've been inside the set of the Rovers on Corrie too. A bunch of us missed school and climbed over the wall - security got us, but not before we'd been inside the Rovers and ALL the houses. You can walk from number 1 right through to number 13 INSIDE. The houses are empty apart from the little bit you see from the outside. There's scaffold and steps so that you can do scenes with you looking out of the upstairs windows. The Rovers has a corner of a bar and that's it. It's tiny and FREEZING cold. That's one of the biggest complaints from the actors.

thats intersting that you can walk through all the houses. From the science museum I have seen that the new houses are all used for storage. They sometimes interview the actors from the 'other' rovers i.e. the one we saw last night.

Looking at your Christmas photos of the set what is that I can see behind the street? It looks like a huge photo of houses. Is this meant to be the houses at the back of the street?

I've been onto the Corrie set as well and the houses are only a facade, as previously said they are all empty and only designed to look like real houses, from the front and back for filming. The pub used last night is definately the real pub which is on the Granada studios lot, beside another pub called the woolpack (which looks nothing like the (Emmerdale Woolpack), these pubs were used for the public when the set was open for tours.

I have a question regarding the Rovers.
Last night when they went inside the Rovers and it was that modern pub, maybe that IS inside the actual Rovers that we see on the street itself. The reason i say this is because whenever there are other shows like this and one of the cast is being interviewed inside the Rovers, they don't use the one we saw last night, or even the one they use to film the soap as the booths all look different, so maybe the one they film interviews in is the one where they use to let the public go into which Isn't on the street itself?

So there must be 3 versions of the Rovers! lol. The one where they film in the studio, the one on the street itself (where we saw the inside of yesterday) and the other one like in torreviejalads pictures.

No I think there are just two- one for filming, one where they interview the cast and i think this was the one used last night- i know it looks a bit different but maybe they did that Rovers up since we last saw it.
The outdoor set is very small and could not have that much space on the inside.

Thats exactly why i think the one we saw last night was the real one, because it looked quite small, the booths went right up to the wall, so the dart board and all that area wasn't there.

I remember on the Corrie tour going onto the street and having a peek inside the Rovers, and to be honest it was a full working pub (alot tinier) than the studio one and you could buy drinks etc, so the one last night WAS the exterior Rovers!

It is, but I assume that it will be used for some for of aeriel shots. The house that back onto the Street can be seen in the 1st picture, though only from behind. You can clearly see the wooden set, with a window cut out.

This one is going to annoy me until we sort it out: are there two or three Rovers sets? I think that there are just two and that there is nothing behind the façade of the outdoor set. Torreviejalad agrees with this as do some other posters. But maybe since they closed the set down they have put something inside the actual Rovers. I still think it is the other version of the Rovers that is located just beyond the chip shop and the other bridge on Rosamund Street.
Can anyone confirm this?
Perhaps Ben53 might know.
Might email Granada and ask them!

It works like this:
Interior set in the studio where they film.
Exterior set outside. Just one wall is wallpapered, a corner of the bar can be seen from the door.
The Rovers used on Tuesday night is the one that was part of the Granada Studio's tour which is full sized and actually used everyday by the Granada TV people.

Actually looking at the interior set, noticed how shabby it was looking. I think it's time that they gave the Rovers a makeover again, the last time was after the fire in 1986. Surely Fred could say he was closing for a couple of weeks for a refit... Charlie could do it!

Yes in the world of soap they seem to renovate in record time with minimal disruption. I bet Devs shop will be back open in a couple of weeks.

I bet it's not. The pictures I took of the set with snow on won't be aired until after Christmas and the shop is still boarded up on the pictures, and they were taken 1 week after the departure of Karen McDonald. And everyone knows that she leaves on Xmas day.

Pictures here and click on 'Coronation Street' and then ' Christmas Street'.

How nice the street looks covered in snow. Looking at your photos I see the hindu temple that was used during the end of part one etc for the wedding episodes. I didnt realise it was part of a set- I thought they had filmed it at a real temple.
When did they add the set at the back of the houses? and what is that big photo of the houses of?!!!!

The hindu temple is just part of the perminant fitting. Part of it is 'Studio One' where the interior shots for Corrie is filmed and part was used for the digital station 'Breeze'.
The photo will probabley be used for a roof top shot with Kirk/Les/Chesney up on the roof. They seem to do it every year.

Or Crimea Street or Maudsley Street. But they seem to have built houses that back onto the street- or at least a facade. W should really be seeing the mystery train bridge though.
