So I bought a Nexus 7 two weeks ago and I still have all my £15 free credit. Any recommendation for decent Android tablet apps?

My purchases came to exactly £15 but prices may have changed since:

TuneIn Radio Pro
Cut The Rope
Final Fantasy III
Sprinkle
Osmos HD

They're mostly games, even though i'm not much of a gamer. Most of the apps i use regularly are actually free anyway.

What do the Android apps scale up like on the Nexus?

Are the screens stretched or is it a case of extra pixelation etc?

i'm not android expert. but the way it seems work is is that a lot of apps are vectored to scale. bitmaps are included to suit different resolutions.

don't forget the screen resolution of something like the galaxy s3 is 1280x720. apps are designed with these things on mind.

suggest an app and i'll see if i can show you.

I used the free credit on:

TuneIn Radio Pro
HD Widgets
Plex for Android (Browse/Stream media from computer)
Smoothsync Cloud Contacts/Calendar (iCloud sync)
Airsync by DoubleTwist (iTunes sync)
Aldiko (ebook management)

If you like puzzles, I've read good reviews of Trainyard. You draw tracks to allow trains to reach their destinations.

Android is always good with stuff that uses open source.

For maps OSMDROID is one of many. You get to choose to use Open Street Map, Open Cycle Map or many more.

Still mentions the credit on the official site...

Could it be because I've used my existing Google account instead of a new one?

Quite a few interesting suggestions, but I'm not really gamer. Guess I'll just keep hold of it

I mixed up my old OSMDROID with the far better ORUXMAPS.

I was going to install Cut The Rope on your recommendation, then I looked at the permissions it requires:

Quote:
“Your Personal Information:
Add or modify calendar events and send emails to guests without owners' knowledge, read calendar events plus confidential information.”

There's only one response to something like that: don't install (well that's the polite version).

The best video player I found is VPLayer - which plays MKVs with AC3 audio. MXplayer and Dice Player, which I tried previously play the video but can't handle the sound if it isn't AAC audio.

Ghost Commander is good for LAN shares.

Star Chart if you're into astronomy. The NASA app (free) for updates on Curiosity etc.

Osmos HD is a nice little game, as is Great Little War Game (like Advance Wars for the gameboy, etc)

I also grabbed Riptide GP which is supposed to show off the Nexus 7's graphics.

Oh, and I'm enjoying Traffic Wonder too, which is a neat little piuzzle game involving traffic and routes and timings.

There's a free version written in HTML5:
http://jayisgames.com/games/cut-the-rope
That runs fine in Windows 7 but I've no means of testing it in Android, etc.

Mediahouse is very good, especially combined with MX Player, streams everything from my synology NAS to my S3 flawlessly.

I like the very causal games. Drop7, Bejewelled, tetris clones and bubble popping games! I play that Coin Dozer game from time to time as I find it relaxing. Temple Run is good for passing around your mates.
