Contact O2 customer services (assuming it's O2 you're with and not CPW O2 or something like that).

A mobile number is only tied to a SIM card if the operator wants it to be. If you're moving from pre-pay to contract then they'll probably let you.

You can but you have to pay a one-off fee of £9.99 as someone i know wanted to do this and they didn't bother.

I would suggest if you have a spare sim card u dont want to use anymore and port your number to that then from that to O2 Online! But make sure the other sim card your using to port onto isn't O2, if you don't have a spare then there are some cheap ones for a few pounds on ebay.co.uk.

Yes you can. There is no need to port as such and no charge.

Quite the opposite in fact. You could end up with some free credit on the new sim, depending on how much money you spent topping up the old one.

More info below:

http://www.o2.co.uk/upgrading

But basically buy the new sim. Call 5450 from the old sim. You will be given an authorisation code. Call 5450 from the new sim - enter the authorisation code.

Job done: the old sim takes the tariff of the new one. The new SIM will be disconnected from the time of the upgrade.
Your reward will be added to your balance after 14 days and confirmed to you by text message.

Unfortunately this is only true if the new SIM is from a HANDSET connected to Pay & Go Talkalot or Pay & Go Original. Hammo wants a SIM on the O2 Online tariff which offers 300 Texts.

With Orange on PAYG if you change your phone to another PAYG then you get the new SIM with your old number if you want!

Not true. The condition you state simply prevents you from getting the REWARD of free airtime, but does not prevent you from upgrading from his old tarrif and taking his old number to O2 online.
