I'm sorry to break the bad news, (And at lunchtime too). But Tesco have discontinued their sugar ring doughnuts.

They have the choc/custard filled and iced still, (Yuck - they are so dry it takes a whole cuppa to swallow), but these, IMHO the nicest ever have gone - for good!

They were a big seller, and I have already complained as have many others apparently.

They are not even really sweet like the jammy ones, I don't like those and propose action, immediately. Or tomorrow maybe.

.....so we are left with just the hole......

Do they still have the jam? I did notice they'd changed the packaging, but thought I'd seen the ring donuts. Disgraceful if they've gone

The custard ones are my favourite, if they ever get rid of them I'll be devastated

Email Tesco they sometimes listen. They seem to have brought out new flavoured iced ones, maybe they're having a doughnut revolution.

On a side note the tesco round my way have introduced a pick and mix cake row near the bakery. Had some nice little iced dounuts on there. The thing that put me of getting them was the fly sat on one rubbing its legs on it.

Yes, still all the different jam and the custard and chocolate....that's the point the sugar ring ones were the only plain ones so to speak, they've even got the iced ones....no wonder this country has obesity problems......

(Can anyone get a "hole" one in their mouth!?)

I prefer those ones, the hole is very low fat, I dip them in my coffee

Those small ones, and the iced ones are as dry as anything...they get stuck in your throat...let the fly have them.

They redesigned the area, that's when they got rid of the ring ones.

Last year they stopped doing Tesco's Jalapeno and red pepper hummus at our local branch and we couldn't get hold of it for a few months, we asked instore and they said they don't have it anymore so we dropped Tesco an email asking for them to bring it back, and a month later it was back

I like to think it was the email that prompted its return, but don't know for sure of course. Worth a try.

That is because some things are individual shops decisions - ours always had that humous - and they can bring them back - this is a nationwide decision they have been discontinued.

Morrisons have them.....

Seems odd they should discontinue them nationwide especially when they're still doing the iced ones.

It's strange, as I said, they are the only "plain" ones, all the ones now are filled or iced.

I used to love the apple and cinnamon, but I'm allergic to cinnamon now.

Mushrooms.......yummmmmm....

Quote:
“Easy Doughnut Holes

1 cup sugar
3 eggs, beaten
6 tbsp. lard*, melted
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 cup buttermilk

Beat together the sugar, eggs, lard* and vanilla.

Add sifted dry ingredients to the first mixture alternately with buttermilk.

Then drop "scanty" teaspoonsfuls* of the batter, a few at a time, in 375ºF. hot fat; turn them once. Drain on paper towels and roll in granulated sugar.

Note: *Vegetable shortening or any cooking oil except olive oil should be alright.”

Going to go try this. I wonder what "all purpose" flour is!?

I can remember a Tesco Express on the way to a place I used to work at. They had a small bakery section and there were always blue-bottles crawling all over the cakes. Made me want to heave.
Youtoo?

No more sugar ring doughnuts? Them's me favourites!

Perhaps it's an evil government plot to make us all lose weight. Or people are falling for the "Krispy Kreme" glaze craze and neglecting the good old, traditional, ring doughnut. Rotters.

Those glazed things are too sickly for me - I prefer licking the sugar off my lips and occasionally being gross and dunking them in my tea or coffee.

Why are they called doughnuts, anyway? They don't look like nuts. Just wondering....

I love the ring dougnuts when they are freshly made, at the seaside or funfair, cooked fresh dipped in the sugar and handed to you still warm , delicious.
