Custard is just so wrong. Cold gloopy mess of ukkkness. Go start your own custard filled doughnut thread and don't even think about darkening our door again, This is for ring and hole lovers only...us normal type folks.

People like custard doughnuts ick

I can't believe sugar ring doughnuts from tesco are no more, there goes my dream of one day conducting an experiment to see how many of them you could fit on an erect penis

Have you tried Morrisons? 2 packs of 6 for a £. I take it that is enough?

Theres one thing about Tesco, If you complain to them about something, they'll get back to you, I complained to them a fortnight ago because they've changed the base on their deep dish pizzas, they taste awful now, they used to be such gorgeous things to eat but now they burn easily and taste of cardboard. She told me she'd pass on my concerns to the manufactures or something, but I'll give them props for getting back to me. =)

I was looking for my recipe....I's making ring donuts today!

Just to let you know too, if you are around, Morrisons have re packaged and changed their frozen cheese and onion slices, where as before they came out as a solid tasteless wedge, they are now not dissimilar to our fav Greggs (from iceland) and a £ each too.

Woolies used to do great ring doughnuts.

I wish there was a chain which did them freshly fried to order like those vans you get at the seaside.

Greggs seem to be expanding almost as quickly as their more overweight customers as there are now two in Shepherds Bush (Uxbridge Rd) a few doors from each other.

Perhaps you could try Rusty Brown's Ring Donuts instead

The doughnuts in our nearby Tesco always taste stale and hard especially the jam ones so I've stopped buying them.

Sainsburys at far nicer and Crispy Creme are the tops. I used to like the cinnamon ones they did in McDonald's.

Thanks for the info, I shall give them a whirl I love cheese and onion pasties, prefer them to 'proper' pasties.

Good luck with your donuts!

Doughnuts are supposed to be light and airy, and like they've just been fried IMO.
Only Sainsbury's come close to that, Krispy Kreme are horrible heavy things, everyone other supermarket seems to be the same, heavy old things, not as heavy as KK though.

Used to have the Tesco Apple ones years ago though, like a meal on Saturdays when I had things to do and didn't fancy cooking a proper breakfast.
Wouldn't eat them for leisure.

As far as I am concerned nothing beats Morrisons doughnuts, or doughnuts bought freshly cooked at the seaside.

I wish Krispy Kremes weren't so horribly heavy and doughy, because some of their fillings are lovely.

BIB That's how Doughnuts should be IMO, light fluffy, not these heavy old things that are like a meal.
Fair enough, the heavy ones line the stomach when you need it (on a session).

On the discontinued stuff, tip.
Morrisons used to do really nice in-house baked Muffins, they stopped doing them I stopped going in, only reason to go near a Morrisons form me.
Asda in-house baked Hedgehog loaves (pot luck if they've got them).
Asda Muffin loaves, been gone years though.

I agree, the kreme filling in particular is gorge but then you have to make your way through the actual donut which isnt so great.

They are also far too expensive.

I'll stick to the co-op and morrisons.

I want to try making them, but there's so many differing recipes.

Just simple ring doughnuts covered in sugar with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

I'll never eat shops ones now...unless I'm really hungary - or they are on offer!”

Good luck!!

A cafe in our town used to sell them hot, both to eat in and take away. They were to die for.

Morrisons now have LEMON doughnuts they are lovely!!

I realise now why Tesco did away with some of their lines. They have got a massive Crispey Creme like display at the entrance so you can select your - pick and mix.

They are really copying Greggs, they also have a unit with hot pasties and slices there too.
