Neighbours CUT last week?
Deschanel
01-12-2004
I read some where that Neighbours was cut last week (22/11--26/11)

Can anyone tell me what the Beeb cut?

This was not suppose to be happening as the producers of Neighbours were unhappy with the Beeb making cuts and after the cut with Conner (tired & gaged) being put into the boot of Rocco's car, they are now consulting the Beeb on storylines like Lana & Sky and doing it in away that the Beeb are happy to air during daytime. Ten have no problems with the content, although Neighbours does air at 6.30pm over in Oz, only an hours difference from the 5.30 re-run and Richard & Judy have shown things that should never have got past the censers.

When Lana first arrived the bbc did cut a small part of a scene in which Lana was derogitory towards Oscar Wilde...if that helps. It was being discussed on a Neighbours fansite.

Yes, it was only a small cut and could be viewed as slightly homophobic, and the Beeb felt it was too explicit a comment.

Can't remember what it was though.

I wish they'd cut the whole program. The standard of the show in the last 5-6 years has gone drastically downhill.

I disagree! Neighbours is still an excellent show and i have watched for as long as i remember! The only 'bad patch' i remember was a few years ago.

I don't see why the BBC think they have to cut scenes

Neighbours is far superior to Home and Away which has really gone down hill since the arrival of the Sutherlands..... although I *had* to watch it today cos Donald Fisher was back lol

I agree with you- I started watching in 99 and since then there was a quick bad patch around the Hanock era when I stopped watching but I think it's great now.
I'm not gonna slag of h&a though! I don't want this thread to deteriorate!

I liked Matt and Maggie (names)?
But the rest were just really annoying!
Thankfully I really can't remember the other names- I think I remembered Matt and Maggie though.

I gave up on Neighbours a few years ago, when I knew it was truly crappy, but I haven't seen it enough recently to appreciate the new direction of it...

Tonight's show was entirely about schoolgirls and IVF. I really felt like throwing up. Neighbours is such a chick show (I understand why it has such a bad reputation in oz).
Home & Away on the other hand rocks.

IVF was boring.
Schoolgirls storyline is gonna get better as I'm sure you know!

As much as I enjoy HaA, I like neighbors more, HaA is just too dramatic , it seems every week some mad accident happens, and the storylines are just getting more and more inane by the week lost twins , cliff flying (again!) trapped down mineshafts , falling off cliffs , murder, crashes and some etc. Neighbours is always Character based and that good, at times events happen that are “explosive” but other than that its just light hearted fun. I laugh a fair bit too. Making Mansions a few months back was the funniest episode I had ever seen! On Topic, I do like this storyline Lana and Sky are really talented and I’m believing every second of it. I wish the BBC would just show the thing in full, who cares if one comment is homophobic,

Spoiler

She is gay herself rejection of who she is will be inevitable, I'd rather see reality rather than some nice "I'm gay and proud" with no problems on the way storyline.

I just don’t understand why they feel the need to censor issues like this, I’d rather it be in my face than not at all, although Max and Steph are boring me now.

I never really get bored of neighbours as its just a bit of light entertainment in the early evening

I think they are showing the rest of the story in full as they worked pretty closely with them whilst it was being done apparently. From what I've read it does seem like it has been handled in a sensitive way as well.
Although
Spoiler
I believe after Lana leave Boyd and Sky may get back together- I am a bit unsure of this as it seems like a cop out. As soon as Lana leaves Sky forgets she ever had any homosexual feelings. It doesn't seem right to me.

Yes, that's what I like about Neighbours it's a lot more lighthearted and believeable. The funniest episode I can remember is when Sindi had those fake boobs in! PMSL She is deffo my fave comedy actress of the bunch.

I have watched both soaps ,since inception, and really
enjoy Neighbours finding it is a very fast 1/2 hour &
quite often laugh more & harder than at some
Comedy shows in prime time later that evening.
Home & Away has really lost it`s way this year,
i feel , & seems like a tug of war between
scriptwriters, in the UK you still have a few months
to go before it really starts to lighten up a bit, allthough
even then if feels very piece meal with the treatment
of some storylines. The lower ratings this year (in Aus)
have confirmed that the viewers are a bit tired of doom
& gloom. The real benifit in the last few months was
bikini extras 4 some eye candy factor.

My Neighbours highlight this year is the return of
Carmella & how Natalie Blair has develloped her
into an incredible young woman of depth - from the
original spoilt school gal we saw earlier. Her 1st few
ep.s do not show this (reeeow payback time)
however the latest developments with her , Connor
& Lori was a showcase and well done.

You really should tune in now everyday. There is no better time than now as you can pick up alot of the plots. Neighbours isn't crappy no more.

Max & Steph: Simple to pick up as Steph wants a baby, but Max is having a few problems delivering and it's now about IVF.
Some are saying that it's boring, but I think in Oz next week things are changing and Steph is getting a new storyline.

The Bishop's: Their story is just starting as Luka has just arrived. How scary was Svetlanka the other day warning Luka to stay away from Serena? Luka has a big secret - not the same as Svetlanka's though.... And Lil, that rash isn't stress related....

Karl & Izzy: Fairly straight forward although not as explanatory on screen. Izzy is pregnant with a pyscho's baby and has convinced Karl it's his. In the bigining it was all to do with having a father for her child, but now she loves him. Izzy's insurcurities are getting in the way.
This story is about to take a twist....

The teens: Their storylines are also just heating up. The Boyd/Sky/Lana plot will be taking off in the next couple of weeks.

Toadie/Sindi/stuart: Their story is about to develope into a triangle. It's the beginning of it in the next couple of weeks. And you might be surprised at which couple your rooting for....

Conner/Carmella/Lori: Hasn't started yet. Carmella should return soon and what follows looks like a good story involving them and Lori and her new beau nasty Nick.

So all the storylines are easy to pick up right now and are going to be really good character-driven-dramatic-drama!

Thats the very thing they did in Corrie, Todd and Nick anyone Looks like they will test the viewer reaction first.

Good point.
Maybe there will be more to come in the future.
It really irritates me watching a soap that has no gay people in. It just seems so unrealistic.

Reminds me of what happened with EE- they lost ratings due to gloom and doom, as well as bad storylines. They are on their way back now, but other soaps should take note that you shouldn't have constant misery. It needs to be counteracted with some happier events.
Please don't think I am slagging of Eastenders- I am a fan myself and do watch.
