Kate Bush- The Kick Inside Vs Lionheart
As all these rumors circulate and with the release of the RUTH remix i thought i would take a look back at Kate's back catalogue so to all who love and appreciate Kate today i have chosen to ask TKI or Lionheart which do you prefer and think is better?
For me TKI wins hand down its romantic, idealistic and got the ball rolling with a whimper not a bang and is a record that has inspired countless Lionheart just seems like a cash in by EMI who had allowed KB three years or so to record TKI itsa good record but a bit weak in comparison. |

Lionheart is my fave Kate album. My other Fave is Hounds of Love. Adore both for different reasons. Both get my five stars award. The Kick inside is great but gets my four stars.

I've always thought of Lionheart as a weaker extension of The Kick Inside, it's abit more theatrical too. It's a shame because if given the correct time to write/record it, Lionheart would've been a great album in its own right. Wow, Hammer Horror, Fullhouse are the standouts for me. The Kick Inside is a flawless debut album.

I love lionheart. I can't even give a reason why there is just something about that album I love.

interesting spaceoddity, for me Lionheart plugs on the heartstrings more and delves into more of the ecentric genius....symphony of blue to hammer horror with the subtlelty of Kashka...genius. Oh Gosh Just looked at Kick Inside tracklist and I forgot how great that was too though. So maybe more a 4.5 stars! And yes a perfect debut album.

I entirely agree about Lionheart its very to my ears at least musical theater it hasn't as many layers it has interesting ideas and points but overall TKI is more multi layered and fearless and tugs at the heart strings and a really very romantic and idealistic album.

Of that early era, don't forget 'Never For Ever'.
I have been a fan since day 1, one of my biggest regrets is not trying to get tickets for her one and only tour. I love all of her albums, but if I had to choose a favourite album, I would probably go for 'The Dreaming' because the critics hated it. |

Lionheart for me. I've always thought it to be an under-appreciated work of Kate's.

NFV totally found a new appreciation for it i always saw at just a transitional album its so much more. |

IIRC, Lionheart was a bit of a rush job put out to capitalise on the success of The Kick Inside and I believe Kate wasn't entirely happy with the results and I think that hast is quite evident in some of the songs, they're not so polished in regards to production as those on The Kick Inside (with the exception of the singles Wow and Hammer Horror) but I actually find it's a better album for it, there's an uncluttered airiness to the songs, making them more akin to her demos.
Special mention to Don't Push Your Foot on the Heart Break, which has a place in my heart thanks to the wonderful line 'she's so OD'ed on weeping she can hardly see'

The Kick Inside is the best debut album by any British female ever!
- Wrote when she was 15! - The Whale introduction - Wuthering Heights - The Kick Inside - a song about a pregnancy spawned from an Incestuous relationship. - The Artwork |

Speaking of Kate artwork, which was the best? The HOL releases were pretty spectacular but I've always been intrigued by The Dreaming album artwork - it wasn't until I got the CD that I realised it was a small key in her mouth (I couldn't make it out on the cassette sleeve). I also love the Kate as Pin Up Girl in the Army Dreamers artwork. |

The Kick Inside is the better album but I agree a person above me that Lionheart is The Kick Inside part 2 as there are songs on there written at the same time. So for me it's all one work.
I was 17 when I first heard The Kick Inside and just turned 18 when I heard Lionheart so both albums (or cassettes as they were for me) were my own personal soundtrack and I lived in Kate Bush's world at the time. |

Yes, it's a mighty fine début but gotta say, I was never particularly fond of that Kite painting myself. Didn't the original KI album have the infamous pink leotard with highbeams shot?

And again i agree after all EMI had allowed and waited three years for TKI and as it was hugely successful they would ahve wanted to capatialise in a short space of time and Lionheart suffered. And special mention for the line in wow ''Hitting the Vaseline'' very worldy wise kate

The Kick Inside by a mile. A stunning collection of songs. Moving & The Saxaphone Song are fantastic album openers.
However, Lionheart is no slouch. There's a couple of ho-hum tracks but some stunning ones as well. In The Warm Room is beautiful and intimate, and Wow is quite obviously a classic. I remember being slightly disappointed when Hammer Horror flopped as a single. |

I prefer The Kick Inside to Lionheart, but The Dreaming is my favourite, that album is crazy.

Lionheart did less well in the charts and was a bit rushed to capitalise on Kate's massive success in 1978, this might explain why Hammer Horror missed the top 40, though the album was still a big seller and arrived to capitalise on Kate's only ever tour in early 1979. Also Wow was a decent seller and as good as anything from The Kick Inside.

The kick inside was a masterpiece. I did like Lionheart and Wow is one of my favourite all time songs from Kate. But for me her debut album The kick inside wins hands down.

I much prefer 'The Kick Inside' - as others have said, I think 'Lionheart' just sounds like a bunch of songs that didn't quite make the cut for the first album, although there are still some great songs on 'Lionheart'.
Neither album ranks among my favourites by Kate Bush though - for me, the first three albums (while still great) pale in comparison to the sheer genius of 'The Dreaming' or 'Hounds of Love', and the subtlety and maturity of 'Aerial' and '50 Words for Snow'. |

As for best KB album, TKI and LH along with NFE are all selections loaded with perhaps half a dozen KB classics between them, lots of great ideas, and an artist still developing. Things really came together with 'The Dreaming' and were perfected with 'Hounds of Love.' Although, I must say that my personal favourite is 'Aerial.' Also loved most of the remixes an 'Director's Cut' and would like more of this. Not so keen on '50 Words For Snow.' I was hoping for a wintry version of Aerial, and what I got was, not bad, but also a long way from inspired. |

Me too. As a young fellow, I couldn't afford to go to as many gigs as I would have liked, and had already seen Rachel Sweet (remember her) that month. Next time, I thought....
