Den, Sharon, Vicki, Paul, Patrick, Yolande, Adi, Ash, Ronnie, Kareena, and Tariq, Sasha, Andy and Spencer are all leaving.

Rumours say Gus, Juley, Sam, Derek, Zoe, Minty and Garry are to go soon too. Really sort the place aht. It brings total number axed to TWENTY-ONE.

Leaving the new cast (inc. new arrivals)
Nana, Alfie, Kat, Jake and Danny Moon.
Chrissie and Dennis.
Charlie, Mo and Stacey Slater.
Pauline, Martin and Sonia Fowler.
Billy and Little Mo Mitchell.
Ian, Lucy and Peter Beale.
Dot and Jim Branning.
Keith, Rosie, Demi, Mickey and Darren Miller.
+ Pat, Jane and Johnny Allen.

Smaller and more dynamic, we have a new cast ready for brilliant storylines. Views?

that would ruin the show ,we don't want all new characters, we want better storylines to look foward to not lots of characters leaving episodes.

Yes there was a story saying they'd decided to leave.

Brooksider I disagree, I believe it will be the making of EastEnders. If it isn't nothing will be.

I've heard there is going to be some kind of 'spectacular' to get shot of some of them - it would be the only way to do it, otherwise there will be departures every week!

It is a huge number of cast to lose in a short time - they need to start recruiting fast. The Millers are not, for me, a success (yet), don't know if the tabloids/general viewership like them.

Rudolph Walker (Patrick Trueman) and Angela Wynter (Yolande Trueman), are only considering leaving, nothing has been decided yet. They are both worried that once Gary leaves their storylines will dry up and so they will be better off working on other projects.

A smaller cast are not going to be able to cope with the heavy workload. Quality will plummet.

As BCJ stated, the cast will be too small for the 4 episodes a week output.

I think the only way forward for EastEnders is to reduce to three if wants rid of so many cast members. That will be the only way EastEnders even has a chance of getting better.

Yeah 3 episodes are enough, as far as that soap is concerned.

I think she'll bring a few more younger people in, as well as maybe 1 or 2 middle-aged peeps.

We'll see, I guess, but I hope Gary and Minty stay.

Definitely, and the BBC should really do this as well as they don't Have to rely on getting high ratings for advertisers.

i didnt hear of anything about patrick and yolande leaving. I dont think this would help teh soap at all, having 21 characters leaving although its just rumours, if this amount were to leave i dont think it would help, theres only so much change a soap can make. you might argue that over the years characters have left and the soaps gone on, but thats over the space of nearly 20 years.

Having all these characters leave, and to have it believeable there will need to be some good script writing going on. Getting rid of patrick and yolande will be a big mistake. Although they havent done much for the soap lately.

Hmm I dont' know. 14 seemed like a huge number but 21? It seems like an awful lot of characters to leave the show in one space of time. They'd all have to go around the same time aswell otherwise next year would just be people leaving Walford every week. I agree with Gus, Juley and Derek going though. They are pointless.

I dunno, its a bit of a scary time as it always is when a new Executive Producer takes over, but when a soap is in the state that EastEnders has been in this year, big changes are needed and that transition could be a bit hit an miss. I dont' know, I'll wait and see how the new characters settle in. The characters already axed I'm happy with.

What about Peggy? Is the character staying or going, due to Babs asking for a lighter work schedule and boss lady saying no.

Jay-H I don't want to state the obvious, but where is the source for this? (apart from the confirmed ones!)

21 is a very high number to axe/cull!
personally I don't think the number will be that high! it would seem very stupid for KH to take such a drastic action! and to lose such a high amount would increase the workload on the other actors...
unless they are dropping an episode? and going back to 3 per week..

Eastenders definately went down in quality the more episodes it increased to. Even when it went to 3 episodes a week in about 1994 it did lose quality. The BBC would never put it back to 3 episodes a week, they would be too worried people would see it as a sign of defeat, or phasing Eastenders out and they don't want to look to be doing this.

Maybe the extra episode has nothing to do with it, it just hit a really bad patch. I remember Louise Berridge saying it was harder when the fourth episode a week was going out, But I think they're just excuses. As we've said already, Emmerdale and Corrie are going out six and five times a week and the two of them have been on top form this year.

i cant see them staying with that limited cast. There isnt enough people there to base credible stories around. Plus there is a big gap in the age spread of that cast between the 13 to 20 something age group. Stacey is the only one in that age group currently on that list isnt she?!

Well, there's Mickey Demi and Darren.

So mickey would have to go out with Stacey and Darren and Demi would have some twisted Twin Insest storyline.

And Peter and Lucy Beale, Lucy now old enough for her own training-bra-storyline with "New Mum" Jane.
