Anybody else gone from iPhone to Samsung G S3?
I am just curious to hear what other people might have to say who have been 'converted' from iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy S3 like myself?
I was reluctant to move away from the iPhone 4S as I like the simplicity concept, loads of available apps, music, tv shows, movies all in one place (iTunes) etc. Many screens swiping with installed apps and thats it. When i received the Samsung S3 - I had no intention of keeping the phone because I thought, android was very laggy, bloated, slow etc. But very curious to see what the hype was all about. I have to say the hype definitely lives up to expectations. After using the Samsung for a few days, customising the screens, downloading apps from the Play Store, I have to say this was a lot easier and easy to use than expected. Also, what I like with the PlayStore is you have a 15 min window after purchasing an App, that if you do not like it, you click on refund, very simple not like with Apple App store where, you purchase an App and there is no going back if the App does not fulfil your expectations, creating frustrated unhappy customers. I transferred my iTunes library over to the new phone without a hitch (except for one track that had DRM) I was quite surprised about this, as I thought all music tracks had DRM!!! Listening to my music through my headphones on the Samsung blows the iPhone out of the water, sound is much clearer and more bass. I was pleased. AND the phone is super slick and changing screens are very fluid. I decided to go back to the iPhone for a day to see if the Samsung S3 won me over and it did. My experience of the iPhone now feels outdated, the iOS feels old, restrictive and just a screen full of apps after swipe after swipe. The screen is lot more sharper and vibrant and feels very 2012. the iPhone now feels its falling behind. With the new iPhone looming, I do not see any improvement except for a slightly new design and iOS 6 which is more than likely to have some backdoor improvements and nothing visually. I am definitely sticking with Samsung as they have demonstrated being innovative and keeping up with the times. I would like to hear your thoughts if you have swapped over. I know iPhone fans will hit this post and slate the Samsung / Andriod technology but have you tried the new Samsung phone recently? |

Yup, me.
I had an iphone 4S 16gb from late January till July. Prior to that i had the galaxy S2. The iphone was ok, it wasn't brilliant like some claim it is. The screen was terrible. While the pixel density was impressive, the colours on the screen were absolutely terrible. It was sluggish, lagged quite a bit and annoyed me a lot! Battery life was ok. iOS is boring to use, boring to look at and needs a massive overhaul. The iphone is solid but, when i was on holiday to Rhodes in June, the iphone was unusable! It got so hot even out of sunlight it caused it to crash constantly. My Mrs had the same issue with her white iphone 4. The galaxy S3 is just incredible from the speed of the thing to that stunning pin sharp screen. The colours are also amazing with absolutely true blacks since with AMOLED screens, when black is required, the pixels simply don't turn on at all. It is a big phone but its not uncomfortable to use and i can use it with one hand no problems. the sound quality even with the supplied headphones is much better than the iphone but, its not as loud which can be annoying. There is ways round this though. The Play store is much faster to use and better laid out than itunes. Its also so much faster at downloading apps than itunes is. The 15min tryout period on the Play Store is also a superb idea. When i got the S3 the Mrs still had her iphone 4. When i looked at it it was like looking at a toy! She now has the S3 as well. |

Multitasking is in true form on the Samsung rather than the iPhone, even Apple claim its new phones multitask but you can only view one app at a time?? That's not multitasking! |

When I got my htc Desire S 18 months ago, a few apple owning colleagues asked to look at it. I'm not sure what they were expecting, but they all seemed to "test" the phone the same way.
1) Ask me to show them where all the installed apps are shown, then they'd just scroll the icons up and down. I assume they expected slow or jerky movement. 2) Open a map or a picture and do two finger "zoom" movements. I have no idea what they expected my phone to do. Then they'd hand the phone back and say it looked nice, but they preferred their iPhone. As two users that have used both Android and iPhone, maybe one of you can help me understand what they were trying to understand about my phone! |

I think they were probably looking from a simplicity point of view. I see were they are coming from, once your used to the iOS, its simple to use and having rewire your brain to use an Android system is mind boggling, but once you pass this then you see the benefits of using Android. It is definitely down to user preference.

I did. I had an iPhone 4 for around 8 months then I got an Galaxy s2.
It took me around a week to get used to it, but since then, I've rooted it, unlocked it from the Three network myself, and I install ROMs on regular basis. I've got a ROM fetish lol Currently using DiLiDrOiD ![]() My one big gripe about it though...it's crap in the Sun. The screen is very hard to see. Never seemed to have that problem with the iPhone. (And yes, brightness is turned up full and NOT on auto brightness.

It worked for me on Friday, so I can confidently say it does transfer text messages as well... Obviously that person didn't follow the instructions correctly... Just watch the video and you will see that you check the Text messages box.

I got my S3 from 3, thought it was great until the last 2 days. Found out you cannot update the phone without the network provider releasing it. Apparently On vodaphone they are 3 updates behind, on 3 it's 4. When I asked 3 on twitter when the update vodaphone finally got yesterday was coming out...they were not aware of any new updates.
Now, this update bring additional functionality to the device but after more exchanges I have now found out from a tweet from 3 - RT @ThreeUKSupport: Hi, yep I can confirm that no network are obliged to release any software updates. There's a lot of instances where a network may*choose not to release one. There's no requirement to do so."* This to me means I am now in danger of over the next 22 months I am going to have a phone hopelessly outdated against the same model on unlocked phones or other networks. Not friggin' happy.* At least with my 3GS I updated at the same time as the rest of the world. Was thinking about trying watchdog but I am sure it will do me no good. Long story short, pick your provider carefully. |

However, if you head on over to XDA or Sammobile you can download a programme called ODIN, download the official unbranded UK firmware and flash it to your phone via ODIN, instructions are also provided and it's very quick and easy, they you will be able to update as soon as the updates are released. I did this with my T-Mobile branded SGS3, it was extremely easy. If you want instructions just PM me

Its piss easy and takes 5 mins and does not ivalidate your warranty as its an official ROM. Instructions here:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1646610 Also Odin is actually Samsung's official firmware flasher for when they repair phones. EDIT:- Beaten to it!! |

I'm not sure where you get your info from, but the S3 was released with "Ice Cream Sandwich" (ICS) which was the latest at the time....the very latest update, "JellyBean" is rumoured to be released for the S3 on August 29th... So quite how you think you're "4 updates behind" on 3 and Vodafone are 3 behind, is well, a mystery as to why you think this. You are in fact on the very latest "update" for the S3. So up until 2 days ago you had a "great phone", now you suddenly you don't because you haven't got an update that's not even out for the S3 yet! ![]() "I am going to have a phone hopelessly outdated "....um...no you're not. Get a grip, please. |

SO, in reality knowing Voda, it will be at least Christmas until they get Jelly Bean. |

Yes there have been several updates this last month or so most only minor 20mb ones though. Personally as others have stated though I would just be moving to unbranded Rom and not worry about phone carrier updates. I got mine via CPW so tend to get the updates straight away I learnt from my last phone and waiting for o2 to release updates which took forever.

Is there anything wrong with your phone then? why are you panicking about an update they are just incremental not gonna change it into a time machine.
And I think you would be right watchdog won't be interested So when it fixes issues within the phone then yes, they may be interested as to why a network was wilfully withholding these. |

I will definitely be installing the unbranded rom for the S3 when it comes out on the 29th.
Vodafone will take an age to release it with their bloatware added. |

The colours are also amazing with absolutely true blacks since with AMOLED screens, when black is required, the pixels simply don't turn on at all

Black good, yes, but can't agree on the colours, AMOLED screens I always find a bit on the garish side rather than being clear, natural colours.
The way i have it, i love it. Looks stunning. |
