Closing Ceremony: Spice Girls stole the show - 1D and Brand embarrassing...
Last night in the closing ceremony Spice Girls stole the show. I had tears in my eyes. Please come back. reminds me of my teens.
Still baffle by the choice to select One direction and Russell Brand.. Why ? Embarrassing and shameful choice. 1D are only popular on twitter and outside UK. Miming during the performance was the low point. Who the hell let Russell Brand in the stadium? Hope spice girls re-group and announce a tour.. |

1d were not that bad though a weird choice maybe they were chosen cause their big in the US now. Thought the spice girls were big but the set was too short. |

Gary Barlow stole the show. His bravery being there a few days after the sad still birth of his daughter took guts.. The Spice Girls mimed ( as did some)

The Spices Girls couldn't even manage to mime in tune. It was a right shower.

Unfortunately...
I agree with the OP though. Spice Girls were brilliant and one of the few highlights of the night. It was only about 4 minutes, but still a great performance from them and a nice treat for their fans. People slate them for whatever reason, but they do/did have real worldwide success, much more so than the likes of Take That who are pretty much unknowns outside of Western Europe. George Michael was the other stand out for me. I have to admit, despite being a fan, I don't think it was such a good idea singing his new single. But aside from that, he was very impressive. |

Totally agree OP - who did Brand sleep with to get that slot? Also, whose idea was it to have Jessie J squeal her way through a Queen classic? Truly awful. Should have been Freddie himself on a screen or the wonderful George Michael like at Live Aid.

The Spice Girls were just embarrassing (you have to admire their consistency!) as were most of the performers, but the worst moment for me was when it looked like Bowie was going to appear - then didn't.
Still, at least the opening ceremony was good. |

I loved the bit with Freddie Mercury, but wish they hadn't chosen Jessie J to sing we will rock you. Like her but far too much of her that night, no need for her to sing 4 songs.
Spice Girls we fun, 1D embarrassing, as was Russell Brand. Muse were awesome, so were The Who, and Wonderwall, FatBoy Slim also great and others, some wobbly bits but overall very entertaining. |

I thought the Spice Girls looked great (and they definitely had to be there) but they sounded awful. I'd concede that they 'stole the show' for those who are appreciative of five nice looking ladies in nice frocks who could stand on top of moving taxis. But singing? Hmmmmm! George Michael was crap! |

If he is a singer, I am an eminent brain surgeon, nobody would employ me as a brain surgeon and nobody in his right mind should ask Gallagher to sing, unless of course, they did it for a bad joke. |

Yeah, the Spice Girls were quite good. Love the song they sang. I thought it was very catchy when they first came on the scene and still think it is now.

Dont know about 'stole the show'......l thought we were going to lose posh at one point. She looked scared to death on top of that taxi and looked as though she was holding on for dear life.

I loved Kate Bush's new vocals for Running Up That Hill, she didn't appear but her voice was so clear and stunning...Also loved Annie Lennox, Ray Davies, Elbow and Muse..I realised for many of the atheletes The Spice Girls, Oasis and Take That were the sounds of their childhood, which must have been great for them...Also loved George Michael who was very seriously ill not long ago with pnemonia. That could have wreaked his voice.

I think Spice Girls had the best staging/show, Eric Idle shouldn't have (I thought he was an odd choice) but did steal the show.
I love Victoria Beckham and I loved how unimpressed by the speed of the taxi's she was, and how the priority was fixing her hair rather than pretending to mime. It was good of her to do the show considering she still has a full time, proper career. Loved the whole show to be honest, could have done without Kaiser Chiefs performing Pinball Wizard, either get the Who on early, or even let McFly sing it again, Jessie J had far too big a role for my liking, 5ive should have performed We Will Rock You if it really needed to be performed. The less said about Emeli "only because Adele's pregnant" Sande the better. |

Bowie is not very well at the moment, I'm sure if his health was better he would have been there.

There were plenty of good appearances, though I'd not personally put the Spice Girls high on that list. They were fine, but for me the segments with Eric Idle, Ray Davies and The Who as well as the John Lennon/Imagine part were the stand-out moments.
But for me the show was stolen by a man who passed away 21 years ago: Freddie controlling the crowd in 2012 all the way from 1986 - class ![]() Jessie J, less so but she did fine
