Non-entities up for best male award at the BRITS!
cheeks

Had a good laugh at a story in the sun today about Robbie Williams being snubbed by the Brit Awards for the second year running.Especially laughable are the "acts" that have been nominated in the "best male" category. These are:Alistair Griffin,Mark Knopfler,Tunde (Lighthouse Family),Abs,Darius,Cliff Richard,Chris Rea and James Galway. What a collection of has-beens and never-beens.Hardly gives the award any credibility does it?Some of these acts haven't done anything for years!

I think you'll find that's The Sun speculating and making up a list. Its what they do when they haven't got any hard facts

Okay just read up on this digital spy to the rescue as always, although the editorial is foolish really but hey...

the only hard fact they have is that Robbie Williams is not eligible for a Brit Award because of the Brit Awards year which presumably runs September to September

Anyway why should he get nominated he has released two singles and a greatest hits album? There are solo artists out there that have produced a far better range of music in 2004 than Robbie Williams, if the Sun thinks those are the best that is on offer then they've just proved again what utter idiots they are. The Sun is brain rot

"Greatest Hits" albums are not eligible anyway. His single Radio was No. 1 but dropped very quickly. Why should he be nominated? As I understand it the list of possibilities has only just been drawn up and will be voted on by the music industry in due course.

Was the article in the Sun by Victoria Newton - nuff said!

It's here:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,4...53127,,00.html

Judging by the way it's written, I suspect this is lifted from some kind of 'long list' of possible candidates as opposed to the actual nominations. Kind of like the Mercury Music Prize -the 'long list' has about 60 albums on it but only 12 actually make the shortlist. Could be the record companies of these artists have put them up for nomination, along with other more likely nominees like Will Young, Lemar etc. and then it'll be whittled down to a shortlist for the big night.

Shame really - would love to see James Galway's acceptance speech

Makes no sense

Abs hasn't released anything at all since 2002

Thank god.

I can't figure out why and how these artistes where even considered, I think its just their PR working overtime (and underpaid).

I think Bedingfield will grab the award again but Lemar will push him close.

As I understand it they are on the list of acts eligible for nomination as they have all released an album in the qualifying period. The Sun have just pulled out a few names from that "long list" who they consider to be laughable to highlight the fact that Robbie has been "snubbed" again, but if the qualification is to release an album which isn't a live album or Greatest Hits then Robbie doesn't meet the eligibility criteria.

The actual nominations won't be announced until 10th January.

I love all the snobbery towards the sun.I suppose you read the telegraph where everything's factually correct!

Does Bedingfield (Daniel) actually qualify this year, i'd have thought it was too late for this year? Maybe next year! I'd have thought it'd be a straight battle between Rascal, Coxon, Cullum, Lemar and a.n.other. I hoping Coxon or Rascal but an award that went to Robbie Williams 3 years running 2001/2/3 will probably go to some other talentless wonder.

Oh and of course we're Sun snobs, the daily star is far superior

Yes we do have the Telegraph but I don't agree that everything is factually correct in that paper. I don't read much of it anyway - haven't got time. If I had my way I wouldn't bother with any paper - they all make things up from a tiny snippet of information.

But you must agree that VN has a thing about Robbie! He can do no wrong in her eyes.

I'm not really having a go at you June. It's just so many times on the forums people discredit a story if it appears in the sun as though their paper's better. All the papers print lies at some time.I was having a laugh at the list of names(true or otherwise) that appeared in the list.I'm not defending Robbie Williams because he's done alright for himself anyway.I don't often read Victoria Newtons column so I'm not going to argue with you on the merits of her column. You could be right for all I know

I can clearly remember these kind of conversations on here a year ago. Let's set the record straight: ROBBIE WILLIAMS IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A BRIT AWARD IN 2005.

He is a big popular star, yes, and I like him.....but he hasn't released a substantial amount of new material over the past year, so there's nothing whatsoever to judge him on.

The whole enterprise would be shown up as a massive fix is Robbie won Best Male on the strength of the two new songs on his hits album while British males who've put an album out such as Mike Skinner, Lemar, Morrissey, George Michael, Dizzee Rascal etc just sit there without getting a sniff.

The list that The Sun have knocked together will be, as someone else has pointed out, part of a HUGE list put together by the BPI, a massive list of virtually every eligible artist in the country.

Are you seriously telling me that James Galway and Cliff Richard will be going head-to-head on primetime ITV next year? Get real.

it's all right going on about people not being eligible for awards but that didn't stop Annie Lennox being nominated for years without doing anything

If Daniel Bedingfield is too late, then Lemar definitely is. Jamie Cullum hasn't put out an album this year either: Twentysomething came out in October 2003.

The Streets were classed as a solo act 2 years ago, you'd be foolish to bet against him winning it this year. Morrissey's not everybody's cup of tea either, but his comeback has been spectacular, he won't be far behind.
