It seems to be slipping. It was announced as July, then it slipped to August. I wouldn't be surprised if it slipped again.

Just out of curiosity, what is it in ICS that you are waiting to use? I have a Desire S and am very happy with Gingerbread. My wife has a One S with ICS and I've yet to find anything great on it that I don't have (or haven't added myself with an app).

This is what is wrong with Android because if you pick the wrong phone model you could be stuck with an old OS with no chance of upgrading - I mean you would'nt buy a brand new PC tomorrow that comes pre installed with Windows 98, would you?

I believe it has slipped to end of august. The only update I wanted really was the apps in icons feature but since Ive installed go launcher it has that feature.

Also Ive been thinking if I do update it might not be compatible with some of my games and apps.

I don't understand your example. My phone is 18 months old and came with the latest OS at the time. If I get a free upgrade, great, if not, it is still an amazing phone.

I get very bored with people complaining that Android has a problem because not all handsets are running the same OS version. My home PC is running Windows XP and I don't expect Microsoft to offer me a free upgrade to Win8. My PC works fine, as does my phone.

Just because something is different to the Apple way of doing things, it doesn't make it bad.

Agree. By not updating the Os of a phone do it make it worse to use than when it was new? i can understand if there was some nasty bugs that stopped the phone working, but my wildfire worked ok. sure it was a little slow, but that is down to hardware and being a budget phone.

A computer is different, software changes and sometimes you need to update to run the latest software. but then look how long windows Xp lasted. compare that to a mobile phone and most people don't keep their phones for anywhere near that amount of time.

Heard that the update will be available on the 20th august but wont be done ota like updates are normaly done. You have to get it via the htc dev website.

So looks like they are doing the same thing they did when they did the update for the original desire to gingerbread.

Is that just for genetic phones? I got my phone from Vf and it has their boot screen and a load of bloat ware pre installed. Will I need to wait for a Vf version of the OS?

I have the Desire S and I really dont think it will be getting the update.
Jellybean on the Nexus 7 looks very good.
How are you finding the Desire S. For I have only ever been 97%/98% happy with mine in the over 11 months I have had it.

Very happy with my Desire S and I've had it 18 months. What was the 2%?

I've not seen anywhere that we will not get the ics upgrade, but the date keeps changing.

Ive read the update is for all desire s models branded or unbranded so when/if you do the update you would lose all the vodafone stuff on it like startup screen and pre installed stuff etc.

I wont be doing the update straight away though as Ill see what other folk think of it and someones bound to put a youtube vid up reviewing it.

It is coming HERE'S the install screen but like I said you have to update via a computer so there must be a reason why it can't be done the normal way via software updates.

I find that in very weak signal areas the Desire S sometimes has signal drop outs.

Yes. I've also read that it can't be done via software update due to partitioning issues.

The update is now available via the htcdev website. This will work on branded and unbranded handsets. It will be like a clean install so it will be like when you 1st bought your phone from a shop so make sure you backup your important stuff.

If you root it you can get roms with 4.0.4 and full Sense 4. HTC made a marvellous phone here (although not waterproof sadly) and ICS and Sense 4 runs like a dream on it.
