I know there have been a lot of issues regarding recording the Olympic HD channels on the unit, but did anyone have the following issue after the update.

I scheduled the closing ceremony to be recorded on the hd channels and when i came to switch the unit on later to watch something else while it was being recorded I was unable to switch channels.

If I stopped the recording I could then switch to any other channel I wanted so I tested recording ITV1 HD and while this was recording I was able to switch channels without issue.

I have emailed Humax about this, but was wondering if anyone else had similar issue.

The Foxsat thinks you have one LNB feed. It only checks at initial install. If you have two then these MUST be on the two outer connectors. If so make a note of schedule (it will be lost) and do a factory reset. Watch for the message that indicates two LNB feebs found. After this it will act normally.

if this is the case then why if i record any other channel other than the Olypmics HD can I record or watch another

I've also checked the diagnostics and both tuners are listed - tuner1 @ 90% and tuner2 @ 85% (both are 100 on the bottom bit)

Sounds like your box is operating in single cable mode. In this mode the box assumes tuner 2 gets it signal from tuner 1 out even though there are two infeeds.

Tune to BBC1-HD start an instant recording, tune to BBC-HD start a second recording.

If you can't now view and pause any other channel the box is in single cable mode.

Try the reset as suggested by Repessac.

Humax simplify the issue greatly, they can't be expected to explain the following.. Try this, I repeat (If it does not work then something is wrong with your install)

Tune to BBC1-HD press the record button, now tune to BBC-HD and press the instant record button. Now tune to any other channel and press pause, you should be able to pause any other channel in the epg. You are now recording 3 channels, 2 to the media list and 1 to the timeshift buffer.

Like Freeview satellite broadcasts digital tv using a single frequency for several channels (Mux in Freeview, Transponder on satellite).

Each tuner in a Humax PVR can handle 2 channels from the same mux/transponder.

In the above example the two HD channels are being recorded by a single tuner, the other is free to view and timeshift any other (if you have two feeds).

Basically Freesat wise recording two from the same transponder (in the example BBC1-HD and BBC-HD) then the second tuner is not needed,

If recording from two transponders then any channel sharing a transponder with either recording is viewable (using the capability to demux a second channel from the same transponder as described above).

Unlike yourself replying with inane comments as you put it. I replied with information I received from Humax directly after posing the same question.

The problem only occurred on the Olympic HD Recording and nothing else (ie I can record from ITV1-HD, BBC-HD and switch to another channel as well). While recording the Olympics on the temporary HD channels I was unable to switch to another channel. And when using timed recording of the Olympics I had issues powering the device and switching to another channel.

I will say help lines do tend follow scripts (frequently leading to try a factory reset) do I tend not to take a lot of notice after considering the advice against what I know.

I think that GT's advice was good (as usual) - you did have the current firmware BTW 1.00.21?

No idea why you had problems following the firmware update that sorted the Olympic-HD recording problem. (assuming you actually had it installed) All I know is that my box after the update worked 100% normally with these subject to the usual transponder limitations.

Quoting vague observations from Humax support is not really helpfull.

Repassac has asked the key question did you have the required firmware update ?. If not why not is now more important as with the demise of the channels there is no way to try and repeat your problem.

Yes I did have the current firmware and this why I raised it with humax and asked if there was a possibility of it happening again if similar channels were temporarily added in the future.
