What an odd story...it's made up of several different events as if it's trying to prove a point...They should let the fact they didn't get that exclusive go....

It's a horrible piece of journalism. It states that to be gay is a terrible thing - "a slur". Then goes on to confuse being gay with being camp. How did they get to the conclusion he was gay? Oh he sang songs from musicals and wore a pink bandana. Of course that wouldn't be stereotyping would it?

It also says "Back in the camp, Burrell faced a number of verbal attacks from Janet Street-Porter. As he sang I've Got You Under My Skin, she asked "You haven't released an album with Woolworths or something? I'm embarrassed. It makes me puke.""

Anyone who saw that last night saw that Janet was joinging in with the fun and laughing as she said it - it was a moment of real joviality.

Just bad journalism all round - even by that paper's standards.

It's quite typical of the press reports of Paul...I read the Daily Express's view on Monday....it didn't even attempt to be accurate.

Quote:
“Outside the camp, Vic Reeves sparked controversy when he said: "I think Paul might be doing well down Old Compton Street when he gets out" referring to a famous gay hangout in London's Soho.”

I think Vic Reeves is sounding more and more bitter all the time with his spiteful comments, he obviously thought he could win and is miffed that he's been out-voted by an ex-butler!

And, it's not like Pauls an easy target or anything

Vic may find himself on the wrong end of a backlash the way Pauls popularity is soaring!

It doesn't matter one iota whether he is gay/straight/bisexual/trisexual....

From what I remember, when the "ex partner" and Michael Barrymore sold their stories a year or so ago, he said that it was a private matter between him and his wife and that it was all in the past before they got married.

I dont think the plan was for Vic to win, he is already well known, the plan was for Nancy to win, Vics just bitter because the plan backfired, especially by him going in.

I suspect that due to all the pomp and ceremony, the royal household attracts staff with a love of theatre. It maybe therefore that a camp manner is the usual way of going on there, whether or not one is gay.

However, the tabloids have always been keen to suggest Paul Burrell was gay. At the time the trial collapsed and there was alot of tabloid coverage, an australian man sold a story claiming to have been Paul's gay lover before he was married. I think it was the Sun that went to town on it.

That was just a joke from Vic, he didn't mean anything at all by it. I like Paul a lot, but I didn't think Vic was being disrespectful at all to him. It was a live show, it was Ant and Dec's reactions that turned it into a 'wink-wink, nudge-nudge' moment, not what Vic said.

I thought Vic's remark was quite spitefully meant, but I'm astonished that some people/papers seem to think an accusation of gayness is a slur, anyway. So what? I do feel for his children, though, not because having a gay dad is anything to be ashamed of, but because by implication, these sources are alleging that his relationship with his wife is a sham, and that's really not on.

Who remembers the Daily Star's Shell/Stu eviction blunder?

" love it when the tabloids are shown up to be the idiots that they are. This morning, the Daily Star produced its early morning edition with the main headline as "Bomb Shell Rocks Big Bro", devoting four inside pages to the eviction of Shell from the Big Brother house.

Amazing as it was actually Stuart that got evicted.

Up until yesterday Shell was tipped by bookies as being the favourite to leave, so much so, the odds of her leaving were 1/50. But obviously the bookies aren't always right and Stuart walked after a frenzy of phone voting.

The Star calls itself (illegally) "The Official Big Brother Newspaper"....as does The Sun...as does The News of the World.

Don't you just love it when the tabloids **** up ) Its made my day. They must have been gutted....especially as it would have seriously cost them to produce the second edition of the paper this morning, with the headline "I've got Stu back again". Planet Gromit (Scroll down to the end or the article.)

That was a classic! Peter Dyke was sooo embarassed for making up a story that only existed in his imagination.

And he would be the first to say that anyone can make jokes about him doing it, and about his sexuality if they want to. Vic's a clever guy, he knows the score, he probably instantly regretted what he said about Paul on the live show - but only because he knew how his remark would be twisted. It was just a joke. I don't think Paul will be offended by what Vic said, and if he is, he shouldn't be.

Apparently (googling furiously...)

"So, what is it with gay men and Judy Garland!?
Gay men like things to be beautiful, fun and tragic. Judy epitomises all of these qualities which make her an icon among gay men."

And alternatively...

… An article explains why gay men used to love Judy Garland but hate her now. Her contradictory personality made her a surrogate for gays who suffered as outcasts but aspired to emotional stability. Today, assimilating gays view Garland worship as a sign of weakness. …

And of course Liza Minnelli is her daughter. Hence her own iconic status among gays and lesbians.

Much as I loathe Paul Burrell, I'd like to point out there are a lot of perfectly ordinary straight people who like show tunes and "mincing about". Not everyone fits in a pigeon-hole you know. Acting like a gay person doesnt make you gay... just as acting like a straight person doesnt mean you are straight.

The man is pleasant, witty and has been the only contestant to make me smile each night. Can't you even sing without your sexuality being brought into question.

Unfortunately, he is a hate figure in some media circles. The dark shroud of homosexuality has been woven even tighter around his beefy shoulders after last night's show.

Absolutely, but you're too sensitive on his behalf. Just because someone jokes about Cabaret being his favourite film doesn't mean they're saying "he is gay" in code I don't know if he is or not, and don't care - I do know Paul likes drama

Nothing wrong with that of course!
