Mobile phone advice required.....
I am looking to purchase a mobile phone for my daughter for Xmas.
Looking for a pay as you package on orange. That's the bit I am sure about. I need to know if there are different pay as you go packages on orange and need some recommendations on what make/model of mobile phone to get. Looking to spend between £50 and £75 on the pay as you go pakage including the phone. I have a Nokia 6310i myself. It is a company phone. You know what teenagers are like (she is 14); they like all the latest stuff to look cool infront of their mates. Probably need to be a colour screen, games, polyphonic and maybe a camera (not essential). Any suggestions? Is there a website I can go to; to look at Orange's pay as you go phone options etc. Thanks. |

The kids like their Nokias.
And the 6310i is no where near cool enough for a 14 year old. if the orange shop don't have anything you fancy there are always the other shops, the link etc. |

There's nothing "cool" for under £75 on the Orange site it appears... |

Could do worse, and a 14yr old certainly could!
It's the thought that counts!

Dont buy from Orange - far too expensive.
Dont buy a 6310i - its technically a good phone, but thats about it. Your best best, given your budget, is the Siemens C65. http://www.directprepayphones.co.uk/...roducts_id=198 (Siemens C65,camera,poly,color screen etc etc) |

Thanks for all of the advice. Nokia 3510i does not sound as good, since reading a review on it.
Looking at the Nokia 3100 on Tesco Mobile for £59.97. This phone gets good reviews. Don't know much about Tesco Mobile pay as you go package though. How does it compare with the other more well known networks such as orange etc. |

How does it compare with the other more well known networks such as orange etc. Tesco mobile is expensive if you make or intend to make calls. At 20p per minute all day the cost can mount up. You get 50% off 3 nominated numbers on any network. So this could bring cost of calls for 3 friends/family down to 10p per minute and texts @ 5p each.. The 3100 is not a bad phone, but it lacks the built in camera of the Siemens c65 which can be purchased for the same price. http://www.mobiledealer.co.uk/produc...hFor=&PT_ID=76 |

The Siemens C65 does not get good reviews. Software problems and the battery life is not too good. See link below:- http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/m...ne-reviews.htm They review a lot of phones on here. Inc. 3100 and C65. Do you have a C65?. |

Do you have a C65?. ============= After network approval is received the new update software versions will be provided free of charge in the coming weeks. Download the latest software version and then update to your phone via a data cable. Customers then they have the following options to upgrade their software: Download from the internet free of charge. A data cable is required to do this (these can be obtained free of charge by calling the Siemens Service Hotline) Update via Siemens Consumer Care where pre-paid packaging will be supplied. Siemens will endeavour to complete the upgrade on receipt. Of course you also have the option of speaking to a member of our customer care team, who will help you make the necessary alterations to your settings. You can reach our Siemens Service Hotline by phoning 08705 33 44 11. ============ I have a 6600, but if you are nervous about buying the siemens and going on your initial budget max of £75, why not go for the Nokia 3200 on tesco mobile. It has the crucial camera and only exceeds your budget by £4. Most importantly the Nokia can be unlocked easily and for free without a cable, so if she already has a sim card or you have a spare one, you can remove the tesco mobile sim and switch. Complex huh? Whatever happened to its the thought that counts?!

I've just bought my 11 year old son a Phillips c355i for £60 on Orange, with a free cd player stereo thingy from woolworths. He chose it himself.
I'm not happy buying him a phone at that age, but x from hell says its ok. Any thoughts on that anyone? |

Its a good idea because you are getting 2 presents for the price of 1 - always a good thing ![]() In my experience the phillips stuff is always very reliable and quality is nice. Check out woolworths offers here: http://www.woolworths.co.uk/wwstore/...?cat=cat160280 |

It depends on how many brain cells you think he actually needs. Depending on how long he spends on the phone will depend how many brain cells will be permanently killed off. See www.rense.com for more info.

Thanks steve007 for that woolies link, some good offers on there, & thanks for the mini review!
Khun Keith - I hear what your saying, but, The debate on this could go on forever, is there actually any proof or scientific study that it kills off cells? But I actually meant thoughts on an 11 year old boy having a mobile - not the health risks! A more specific link would be more useful instead of the one posted. The site is huge! |

The site is huge! ![]() I am aware of some studies on long term excessive use of mobiles on children and also what i have been told by scientists at a certain government organisation, but use can be moderated by the parent to prevent it becoming excessive. I'd imagine mostly he would be sending texts anyway (its only voice calls with mobile held near the skull which are considered dangerous when excessive), and if you limit his top ups to £5 a week/fortnight then once he has used his quota he will have to wait for another card before he can use it again. Most importantly your child can get in touch if he needs to.
