Low memory on iPad 1

Keep getting this constantly on my iPad 1.

Can't use the app store for more than 5 mins at it crashes.

I have closed all one apps, cleared the caches, done a reboot, reset and even a clean wipe and reinstall but nothing.

Anybody else got any (sensible) ideas other than forking out for a new model as its ruining my user experience now?

Unfortunately the iPad 1 has far too little memory for the size of screen it has. However apps get a notification when memory is low and they have the chance to sort it out to prevent crashing... so basically whilst the iPad 1 doesn't really have enough memory, the apps your using don't seem to be written to cope with the situation properly either, which is down to the app developers.

Too little memory for it's screen? What are you on about?

To op - has it always done this or has it just started?

I encounter the crashing with the App Store, iTunes and safari mainly - so in response to Rich2k - do Apple not make apps serviceable on their products then!?!?!?

Alan1302, it has mainly started since updating to iOS 5.x - the latest update doesn't seem to have made it any better.

Have you taken it into an Apple store to see a "Genius". It might be a faulty component. Him indoors has an iPad 1 he uses all the time for browsing and he's not had any issues with iOS 5.

Let's say we have a full screen size PNG image, that's 300Kb. It doesn't take 330Kb to show that image on the screen... it takes one heck of a lot more than that when it's uncompressed.

All you need is a graphically intense application and you'll soon find yourself running out of memory and in some app cases, crashing.

It's not a problem - just buy the new iPad.
