I'm sorry I am still not sure what you are talking about can you explain a little more ?
Absolutely

I think they mean, if the Yorky was 5 years old, they would take it, but because its 10 years old, they probably want adivce how long they live, so not to be dissapointed by them losing the dog after a short time.

The lifespan of a Yorkie is 12 -17 years - but I have known longer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yorkshire_Terrier

I have no experience of owning Yorkies but have had (over the years) six re-homed Westies. Two of them were aged 10 when I got them and lived until 14 and 15.

Be prepared, though, to have great patience with an older dog, the possible extra care needed not to mention vet bills - new insurance is well nigh impossible for a dog of that age.
Having said that I have never regretted re-homing older dogs

Well done I still can't see how you came to that conclusion but it sounds more feasible than anything I could make out of it.

I have one and she is just as active as she was when she was a puppy and she's 12 in under a month!

The only thing I would say is yorkies can be snappy, so make sure the dog is nice. My dog has growled at people sometimes but never attacked!

It wasn't that hard to understand...Don't be so patronising.

Well I couldn't understand and the thread had very few responses so I would guess many others had problems with it too.

If that were true I would worry but as I know it isn't I suggest it's more your problem than mine.

... and me I'm afraid. Your initial post wasn't entirely clear and neither was your subsequent one, for me, but anyway........

A 10 year old Yorkie could live healthily for another 5 years. A 5 year old Yorkie could live healthily for another 5 years. Dogs don't come with lifetime guarantees. I adopted a 13 year old Spaniel last September, he is still going strong. I doubt we will ever have a 'young' dog again and will always steer towards the oldies. There is something very special about them, so I would definitely say go for it. Go and have a chat with the staff and meet the dog and see how you feel after that. Good luck!

My father- in- law was very lonely when he lost his dog but could not take on a pup because of ill health so we got him a ten year collie from the RSPCA.
It worked out fine, various ppl helped so Penny had walks and when my father-in-law died we took Penny to live with us (meant we had 3 dogs ).
We had Penny for about 18 months until old age caught up with her and my husband let her go.
She was about 15/16 so I think it is worth taking on an older dog, they still have a lot to give and deserve a chance.

Sometimes rehoming places will help towards the vets bills if an animal is old or has existing health problems.I would ask about this is finances are a concern.
My friend took on a neighbours old dog- a lab and it cost her quite a lot in vets bills so I think it is something that needs to be considered.

Sometimes it is not the case of you wanting the dog .. It's the RSPCA or any welfare center letting you have the dog.

They will vet you, your family and home to see if you meet their requirements.

Good on you wanting a rescue dog .. wish there were more like you.
