Youngone
16-08-2012
Hello

Upgrading soon and have narrowed it down to two models the HTC One S and the Galaxy 2. I know the Galaxy 2 is about a year old but they still seem to have simular specs, can any users of these Mobile give me any advice

My upgrade date is here too and I also was looking at those 2 phones HTC One S and the Samsung Galaxy S2 so any advice would be appreciated.

Have done a compare on google and they look very simular but which one is going to be the most straight forward for a first touch phone person to use.

Thanks in anticipation.

My wife got the One S a couple of weeks ago and she's very happy. It is very slim and the battery seems to last longer than she expected, she charges it every other day.

We are both long time HTC users and like the sense GUI. I think what you are used to could be a big factor. I think HTC's sense is very intuitive and user friendly, but maybe that's just me.

I pay 22 quid a month on my contract and I too wanted the htc one s off tmobile because my contract is also up with them. They said if I wanted to stay on the same deal I would have to pay 200 quid for the handset!! A bit steep if you ask me. I thought you get better deals if you stay and renew your contract?

The only phone they offered me was a htc desire c...... Stuff that.

Get a contract from 3rd party provider such as buymobiles.net phonesforu e2save etc you will find far better deals than with the carrier

I would choose the s2 simply because it has removable battery and sd storage if this is not an issue for you there is not a lot between them to be honest go for the one you think looks nicer.

Why not go the whole way and get THE smartphone of the moment - the Samsung Galaxy S3.

You can get the S2 a bit cheaper but I think you'd be kicking yourself for making the small saving against an S3.

Have had a play with it and whilst it's a bit bigger than others it's screen is so impressive and so is it's responsiveness.

Raid the piggy bank and go the whole hog!

The S3 is £36pm and I dont want to spend more than the £26 that I spend at the moment plus the S3 is too big for me.

Thanks to the people who have responded, am off to the Vodafone shop tomorrow so will have a play with the HTC One S and Galaxy S2 and see which one appeals to me most.

Goto carphone warehouse and get an unbranded unlocked handset so not nasty logos or software.

I would go with the S2 they hold there value on a par with the iphone.Htc phones seem to plummet in price due to them releasing new models every few months.

For my next phone early next year im not sure if to get another HTC or not as I have only been 97%/98% happy with the Disire S in the just over 11 months I have had it due to signal drop outs in very week signal areas and poor wi-fi signal in poor wi-fi signal areas.

i am a bit worried about HTC as well which is the reason why I have been looking at the Galaxy S2 as an option. I had 5 HTC legend Phones all go wrong, before Vodafone replace them with a Desire S, so far i have had no problems with the desire but it is only 4 months old. Also on some forums people have be reporting problems with the HTC One S home screen. Looks wise I would go with the HTC One S straight away but looks aren't everything as I learnt with the Legend.

You are like me a bit unsure about getting another HTC.
I have had 3 sony ericsson phones over the years and was 98%99% happy with them. All the Sony phones was non smartphones.
Only thing I found with one sony ericsson phone was after 18 month the battery would only charge up to 98%.
Dont know what sony ericsson smartphones are like.
Any new phone I would get would have to use miro usb for charging and be another smartphone.
I got till early next year before I even think about changing my phone.

To big for my liking I even think the One S and Galaxy S2 are too big but not many decent models out there with smaller screens. any other suggestions. must be on the Vodafone network, have Android and no bigger than 4.3" screen.

Youngone, as well as the two you mentioned I would also consider the Sony Xperia S. It has the highest resolution screen of the three and a higher resolution camera. You would not be dissapointed with any of them so it comes down to personal preference.

Sony Xperia S would have been my first Choice but Vodafone online do not seem to sell them. As i have a discounted tariff I can only have the phones they do online. thanks for the suggestion though

My wife had the same problem. All the best phones are huge. She had a Legend and wanted to upgrade, but when she saw the SG3 and One X, she was amazed how big they were.

She got a One S, and a week later she saw her old Legend and said it looked really small and old fashioned. I guess you get used to the bigger phones fairly quickly.

Had a legend too (5 different handsets in the end), but nothing but problems with it, Vodafone then exchanged if for a desire S which to me has a perfect size screen 3.8 can't find any android with better specs than this with this screen size so reason why i am looking at 4.3 phones, I have seen Vodafone are releasing the Huawei Ascend P1 does anyone know anything about this phone as could be an option.

My wife had to take back her first Legend, the screen was unresponsive to touch. If you touched it in one place, it thought you had touched it somewhere totally different. It make the on screen keyboard impossible to use. The replacement phone was perfect and she used it for two years until getting a One S a couple of weeks ago.

I have the Desire S, and have had zero problems in 18 months of use. I'm due an upgrade right now, but as I don't want a mini-tablet, I'm keeping the Desire S for a bit longer. The One S looks really nice (although a little large), but I don't want the same phone as my wife!
