Android 4.0 Tablet For £99 - Is It Worth It? Anyone Got/Had One?
Hello guys,
Been lurking on here for some time and found some really good advice so thought I'd ask your opinions! I'm looking for a tablet to keep the kids entertained for the rest of summer - keep them out of the way of the wife! I have found the following tablet and was just wondering if it's going to be good enough to play basically games and movies, also if anyone has had any experience with this device or similar? http://gadgetfreakz.co.uk/ainol-novo...ps-tablet.html Thanks a lot! Regards |

Chances are at that price it will be naff. It will probably be that crappy resistive touch screen too. Press, no reaction, press, no reaction, preeessssss....reaction!
Save up another £60 and get the Nexus...a proper tablet. You gets what you pays for as they say. |

For £110 you can get the Aurora II from Hardware Heros - same screen but dual core processor and very nice it is to...got one mydelf |

I agree even though it looks good at that price you better spending a little extra and getting yourself the Nexus 7. I have had the Nexus 7 3 weeks now and im loving it.

Darern When I say better I mean what is worth £80 – I do realise it’s got a quad core processor and slightly higher screen! |

If you know what you are doing and read up about the cheaper tablets you can get a great little tablet for not much money. |

True to an extent – but if you know what you are buying then you can grab something at a bargain price which other people will miss out on either because they have not looked into things or people that just buy the brand
One of the main concerns might be after sales support and software releases but that may or may not be an issue depending on whether you intend to flash your own ROMs anyway. I have a Nexus 7 and an ASUS Transformer. Both great tablets. But some of the budget chinese tablets are also getting great reviews..... |

Hi Rowan,
The ainol tablet will be perfect for your needs. I have bought the same tablet from Gadgetfreakz and have had superb service from them. The tablet has been rooted already and is set up with IPlayer and Catch up TV ect as well as a few games. The screen is superb, it is also one of the later LG screens so no problem with quality. It is in fact a little too bright, I had to reduce the brightness quite a lot but this extra brightness is useful outside. The angles are also great being an IPS screen. In real world usage of browsing the internet, general games playing and watching video I am getting about 4.5 hours out of the battery but with just watching video you could probably get a bit more with wifi off. Also a usb converter is suppled so you can plus in your usb stick to the mini port. The unit does get a little warm on the left hand side, but then again most tablets and phones do run a little warm after use. It also has so far run every video file that I have thrown at it, including .MKV files flawlessly (and I am quite picky). I have emailed them and ask plenty of questions and get an answer every time. The build quality is also very good, only a very little bit of give on the left hand side when it gets warm but I dont consider that a problem and as I say im very picky, which annoys people including my gf. I would say for your needs and casual use for the money you cant do much better. It is never going to rival an ipad ect but then again its no where near the price. One more thing Gadgetfreakz do run quality control tests before they send it out, my unit has been fine so far. Obviously I only have experience of my unit though. If you need to know anything else just ask, since I have to tablet. |

My lad bought an unknown brand one 3 weeks ago, for £119, exactly like that spec, complete with HDMI out, usb etc, it was, should I say, SHIT! ![]() I tried it, and yes, it had ICS on, but boy did the screen suck monkey balls. And it was slow too. Press, press, presssss react. Seriously, after 4 days he sent it back. Thankfully the seller was a good egg and took it back no quibble. As I originally said, you get what you pay for, and a lot of these unbranded [probably cheap Chinese], tabs are trying to cash in on the current tablet market. Buyer beware, is all I'm saying. |

And I have had a couple chinese tablets, firstly flytouch 3 (which my mrs managed to drop down the stairs) and now advent vega (which the kids use). Of course neither are going to touch my Transformer or the one listed here is not going to as quick as Nexus 7. But then I am not paying nexus 7 prices. Its all down to what you want to use it for. I would media playback, light web browsing and basic game playing will be just fine.
With a Nexus you will get good after sales support, and probably good follow on software updates. With an unbranded Chinese model, you'll probably get a "number 33" from your local take away first before proper after sales support

It's pretty good that the company root, change the language and remove the Chinese apps from them before you get it.

Hi artnada
I can assure you I have no interest in selling anything. I visit the forums but dont usually post, however since I had the exact tablet that was asked about I thought that I would be of some use. I can only give my experiences and in my opinion it will fit what Rowan needs it for. It's not going to set the world alight but for £99 it does the job well for casual use. I was cautious when I bought it but looked at loads of forums, videos and decided to go for it, no point in spending any more than needed. I just use it mainly for watching web video and video off a usb stick. Im going to try and post more often but not someone who's very active on posting im afraid. If you look at my previous posting that was also to offer advice on a completely different topic. |

Oh one more thing I forgot to mention about the tablet, specifically from Gadgetfreakz, there is a slight bug with the rom that they have used which when you press the down button it takes about a second to register. The up button is fine though, which is odd.
It doesn't bother me too much but may annoy some a bit more. |

It will more than likely be adequate but whilst it has Google Play some apps may be incompatible as it has a MIPS processor. Most devices use ARM based processors, therefore 99% of apps and games work. MIPS on the other hand is not often used, hence the little support.
