Alanis Morissette - Havoc and Bright Lights (new album)
Anybody looking forward to Alanis Morissette's new album 'Havoc and Bright Lights' out on August 27th?
I've heard a few previews of the album and i'm quite impressed so far. The lead single 'Guardian' is a great track (although from the album previews, there's loads of more catchier songs on the album). 'Lens' has a great chorus. 'Havoc' is a beautiful ballad which totally rips off her 2004 track 'Not All Me'. 'Spiral' sounds very pop too and I think 'Woman Down' would be a great single. Anyone else gonna buy it? I'm sad to see there doesn't seem to be much UK promo so far for the album, even though it's out in less than two weeks. Even her last album has more exposure. Tracklisting 1. Guardian 2. Woman Down 3. Til You 4. Celebrity 5. Empathy 6. Lens 7. Spiral 8. Numb 9. Havoc 10. Win and Win 11. Recieve 12. Edge of Evolution 13. Will You Be My Girlfriend 14. Magical Child 15. Jeckyll and Hyde (UK Exclusive) ------------------------- 16. No (Japan Bonus Track) 17. Big Sur (Target US Bonus Track) 18. Guru (Target US Bonus Track) 19. Permission (Target US Bonus Track) |

The album leaked last week and I gave it a listen. I have to say it's actually my favourite album of hers, I'm a big fan! My favourites from it are Guardian, Celebrity, Empathy, Lens and Numb. I will definately be buying it

I love the album - its consistent on par to her last album. My faves are Numb (Wow! Powerful stuff....) and Empathy (her vocals here are sublime...very jagged little pill) ...and Guardian and Lens (reminds me of Thank U a little). Admittedly, I havent heard the deluxe tracks yet.... strangely...i have only recently discovered tquilla from her delxue album....wow that should have been a single...so catchy and fun pop!! ....what is clear is that on the last two albums she has seemed to have found her voice again!!!

I love this album. Really good fun and deep without being draining.
Jekyll and Hyde is surprisingly good too. |

No TV but I heard Guardian twice on radio 2 and on Radio 4 when she was on Front Row this week. |

I was a huge fan of Jagged Little Pill. I listened to it non stop when it came out. However, none of her subsequent albums really affected me in the same way. I know artists like to change, but I feel she abandoned her style that made her great in the first place with too many experimental songs. I might check it online to see if she's back to the Alanis I loved. I heard the first single Guardian though and it didn't really grab me. A lot of her music is very soft now, I sort of miss the in your face more angry guitar heavy Alanis.

Her live music is very guitar as she always has a band, the live versions of some of the new songs are the same. But JLP isn't who she was, people just want it to be because that is what they like. Every album is just her at the time and an honest reflection of what is happening or has happened. I adore Alanis, but experimental? No, never. A few different styles (SFIJ, eastern influence stream of consciousness. URS, as similar to JLP as you will ever get. FOS, the left overs. SCC, in love pop. FOE, electronic heartbreaking other side of a breakup to JLP. HABL, happier less wordy pop with typical Alanis lyrics but less psychobabble) but never abandoning what made her great because they are all the same in terms of content. Just JLP appealed to the masses. But she will never be the JLP Alanis again, which is a great thing for her and the fans. She doesn't want the screaming, hair pulling stalking fans any more and I don't want her to create a fake album just to please the masses. |

![]() I have 9 bloody versions of this CD ordered because of the various DVD and bonus tracks. The one with everything (except the Target only tracks) is iTunes, except I have to have physical for the artists I really love. 4 days until the Japan release! |
