Hi,

I saw an advert on the TV recently advertising a Samsung TV where the person does a pinching gesture and the volume goes higher or lower, http://www.samsung.com/us/2012-smart-tv/#navigation, was wondering if someone could tell me the models it's on, or if it's on all Smart TV's?
Also, could you tell if if there are similar TV's like that (hand gestures)

Thanks,

Raheem

Samsung es8000 and es7000 models use smart gesture. The one from the ad will be the 55" es8000 and as far as I know, no other manufacturers make these type of tv's (not yet anyway)

The TV itself is without a doubt beautiful. There are various ways of controlling the TV but I think the hand gestures and motion control make the TV just expensive. Those features are something that we all can live without. As CNET reviewer David Katzmeier said, 90% of time we would still control our TV using the traditional remote control.

It seems a pretty ludicrous idea - I presume almost everyone will disable it within a few weeks?.

I agree, Samsung's are stunning to look at but I don't know if this motion/voice control is a good idea or not and as Nigel said. I think most people would turn it off within a few weeks if not sooner. It's the kind of thing you would show to friends that came round but probably say "right, lets disable this sh*t" as soon as they had gone lol

You've turned me This is exactly how I am with my phone, Galaxy SIII, it has a "smart voice control" which I showed my friends and family, and I have not used EVER since.

Don't get me wrong here though. The es8000 is a stunning TV and for what iv'e seen has amazing PQ in HD and 3D (I never looked at the SD quality as I never bother watching it). I think what puts most people off Samsung's is their poor track record of using cheap components in expensive TV's but you can get a free 5 year warranty from John Lewis on most if not all TV's so they are still worth considering

There's enough crap now you have to turn OFF when you install a new TV we don't want any more

wouldn't wast money on the es8000 - its backlight dimming etc is so LED still. A TV worth that much has a pretty "meh" image. You can get a better PQ for less.

I have this set in 55 inch and yes I find the gestures and voice activation a bit of a gimmick but it is a brilliant set and since I got it about a month ago it has been a learning curve and still is with all its features. My first Samsung and you know something for a change its cheaper here in Ireland than in the UK by about 10%. It usually the other way round we pay through the noses. Is'nt it an pity we have not more 3D available?
