Hi all,

I have a broken galaxy S2, its got 2 faults, the first is a broken headphone jack, it thinks that the headphones are permantly plugged in ( I believe this is a common fault) so I cant make calls as I cant hear the person on the other end.

Second fault is the microphone isnt working I can only take a call if I put it on speakerphone. Now it is water damaged so this isnt covered under warranty, am totally prepared to pay whatever.

Took it to the carphone warehouse they say they cant fix it as its too serious and want to sell me another one which seems a bit fishy to me.

Is there anyone else I could take it to/send it away to? I'm just looking for recommendations really so any ideas would be gratefully received.

You'd need to send it to Samsung in the UK for them to fix. As it's water damaged, that probably negates your warranty. Do you have accidental damage insurance on your home insurance. If the excess isn't too high and they cover mobiles, it might be worth trying that route.

All a retailer can do is send it on to Samsung to quote and fix, they have no engineers of their own. There's no benefit to you, it would just take longer, so sending direct makes more sense.

That's not true of CPW, they have their own engineers.

I'm surprised they refused to fix it - they make money out of it either way.
If it's a warranty fault, they get money from Samsung; if it's not a warranty fault then they will charge the customer.

If I were you, I'd be making a note of who refused to send your handset away and complaining to their head office.
Because they're not doing their job properly.

This makes no sense. CPW are an official repairer for Samsung if they can't fix it not sure Samsung will be able to do much.

Find out where your local Samsung Service Centre is. In Stoke its a small shop in the centre of Hanley - I took a dead Galaxy S2 in there, and with absolutley no fuss they took it off me, sent it away and got it fixed for free - no paperwork except a quick receipt, no money, no fuss. Possibly the best customer service I have ever had.

They were really pushing me to buy another one they offered me discount if I would do it straight away so I became a bit suspicious and thought no thanks

Thank you that is what I will do, otherwise my options are to see what mazuma will give me and buy a new one or I can use a bluetooth headset with it as everything else works just fine and tbh I dont make many calls I'm more of a texter

CPW have a policy to offer a discount on the SIM-free prices of handsets if your handset is 'Beyond Economical Repair' - ie damaged due to liquid ingress or the motherboard is bent/snapped/damaged or some other particularly serious issue.
Beyond that, that sounds very out-of-character for CPW, so it could just be a dodgy store/staff-member.

As I said, it may well be worth lodging a complaint.

They were always a bit hit and miss with Samsung, with some CPW express repair centres being able to handle Samsungs and others not. For instance, when my Samsung broke I looked at that page linked to by Richard1960 and I could take it to the CPW express repair centre in Coventry but not the one in Milton Keynes. Now, though, no CPW stores are listed at all on that page - maybe CPW have "lost" their official Samsung repairer status.

When I took mine in to CPW they managed to only fix one of the two faults and refused to acknowledge the second, so I had to send it off to Samsung aswell. If that's what they're like generally it wouldn't surprise me if they have lost their status!

You should bring it to our CPW store. I could easily diagnose and fix both problems for £50.

CPW have been cutting back their ERCs, which might be why there are none listed any more - there's no CPW stores that can repair the handset on-site.
But any CPW store should be able to send the handset away to their central repair hub who are most definitely Samsung-certified.

Sometimes a simple Factory reset solves this problem, try that before paying money to have it fixed
