Hitachi HDR255 v5.2 Firmware Update

Hi Folks

Does anyone know anything about the v5.2 upgrade for the Hitachi HDR255 box? I understand it is on the air at the moment but my box, currently running v3.5 doesn't find any upgrades when promted, Were they "upgrading" down to v3.4?

This is being discussed in the thread here(see recent posts).

To answer your question V5.2 is based on version 3.4. Because the software has a version number higher than 3.5 you should be able to download it.

As Colin says, I would expect your Hitachi to be able to pick the update up. Make sure you have automatic updates enabled, and see if it picks up the update when you switch the box off tonight. If it still hasn't updated by tomorrow morning, I suppose you might new to perform a channel scan - or if you don't get all channels, maybe the mux where the software updates are broadcast is not being picked up by your box.

Maybe there is something special about v3.5 though, as I would have expected it to have already picked up the v4.6 and v4.8 updates which were broadcast many times this year, unless you switched automatic updates off.

Thanks for the info guys.

Tried again to manually update, still searches for a couple of minutes, then says "no new software was found"

Did a system re-install & re-tune and still the same.

Might be due to my aerial which is apparently is a bit old and short and means I don't get Sky News and some auction channel.

Don't think I'm missing much with the upgrade anyway by the sounds of the other thread.

Thanks for the help.

If you look at the previous thread on page 15 I have had the same problem. It would appear that no update takes place from factory set 3.5 even the infamous 4.6 & 4.8 did'nt take though it was set to auto pickup. Futaura is trying to get a definitive answer and will post on next thread any info he has been able to get.. I would add that I have had no trouble with 3.5 but like the old feature that when you hit info button twice on remote you get the full programme information.

Although interestingly, Lydo has since said that his v3.5 box did pick up the v4.6 OAD. Still could be that the OAD ID is different in some of the factory shipped v3.5 units, although unlikely as it hasn't happened before (unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to see the OAD ID in v3.5, although it is displayed in v4.6/8). Could be transmitter related. I'm still waiting for an answer on this from Vestel.

BTW, there is a repeat broadcast of v5.2 on 31st August, so maybe it will work then.

Thanks Futaura, yes I did see that Lydo's had updated from 3.5 to 4.6 so your suggestion does make sense. I will try the next repeat update and see if it works from 3.5 to 5.2. As I said in last thread, I have had no bother with the factory set 3.5 but like the info feature which is added in 5.2 I look forward to your post when or if you get any more info. Anyhow your assistance is greatly appreciated by myself and I am sure by many others.
