What a stupid thing to say...

The iPad has better build quality, a better screen, available in 3G, available in 32GB and 64GB...

The biggest advantage of the Nexus 7 is that it's £200, if the iPad cost that it wouldn't be selling half as well.

There's no doubt about it though, if you have a £200 budget and on the market for a tablet the Nexus 7 is definetly the way to go.

Gormond you have a fabulously patronising way of saying that all devices that aren't apple fill the niche market of people who can't afford apple.

Some of us have plenty of money but just don't like the iPad because iOS is shit.

All true what he has said though - build on the iPad is better and if you could get a 7" iPad at £200 with 16GB it would be selling well.

What a silly thing to say, iOS is not "shit" at all an neither is Android. You may prefer one of the over but to say iOS is s++t is very silly.

There may well be a iPad mini on sale within 2 months, hopefully it will retail around the £200-£250 mark.

I won't look forward to reading the mobile forum when/if it does along with the iPhone 5 - the constant Apple vs Google is so boring - some people like one, some people like both - as long as you are happy with what you have then that is all that matters.

Yep, spot on. The Nexus 7 wins, not just because its cheaper, but because its small enough to fit in your pocket and take anywhere. Even at the same price, I wouldn't swap it for a 10" tablet, including an ipad.

Wins what?

If you are happy then that's fine but it's not for everyone. A lot of people prefer the iPad and a lot of people want a 10" tablet.

Some people should not be argued with, never try to discuss anything with a fanboy of any product. Be it xbox v PS3, Android v iOS, Samsung V LG.

Android is a great OS and offers its users exactly what they want, iOS is great and offers its users exactly what they want.

Actually neither offer us EXACTLY what we want but they offer us a lot of what we want as users, that's why we choose them. Unfortunately some silly iOS fanboys or silly Android fanboys make forums like this turn into silly arguments.

When you see comments like iOS is S++T or Android is S++T you know there is no point continuing the discussion..

I don't like iOS, I think it's shit because it doesn't do any of the things I want it to do. Whether or not you agree with me is of no consequence.

You mock the fanbois but have turned up in a thread about android clearly singing from the apple hymn sheet.

Welcome back.

I like them both. I can see pluses and minuses for both sizes and OS's. I'd probably be dismissed as a schizophrenic by the most ardent fans. But I'm the same with Win vs. OSX, PC vs. Mac and Xbox vs. PS/3 etc.

Some people, yes that may be the reason but the vast majority is cost. Just look how well the £400 Android tablets sell compared to the iPad.

I reckon Android tablets will rule the £200 price point but the £400 price point will be ruled by the iPad and possibly Windows RT devices.

How about all those 'I used to have an Ipad but I prefer the nexus 7 now' articles?

7 reasons Google's Nexus 7 beats the iPad
http://www.infoworld.com/slideshow/5...he-ipad-199490

"5 Reasons Why I Ditched My iPad for a Google Nexus 7"
http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives...le-nexus-7.php

"I'm going to try to leave the iPad behind a bit more and see how much of a power user of the Nexus 7 I can become. "
http://www.zdnet.com/nexus-7-a-road-...nd-7000002570/

And the most ardent Apple-philes are conceding the Nexus 7 is "more desirable in many circumstances"

An iPad Lover’s Take On The Nexus 7
http://techcrunch.com/2012/07/15/omg...ally-likes-it/

(MG Siegler of TechCrunch is pretty much the epitomy of an Apple fan journalist, his readers know, and he knows, so much of the article is sending himself up about really liking something with Android)

Of course, there are other articles saying the reverse, but pretending its only doing well because its better value for money is sticking your head in the sand.

It's not for everyone sure, and it might not prise the ipads out of the hands of all their owners but it is a massive shot across the bows of Apple's tablet hold.....at least until iPad mini comes out.....

That's when it becomes more interesting and if Google want to gain traction in the market they will need to really push the Nexus 7 very hard.

As per another thread we are both on I think that android users are starting to become more tech savvy. Many (the majority?) Of iPad early adopters were quite probably iPhone users and apple fans. They have a huge fan base.

Then for a long time they were the only real option so sold in millions.

Same with the iPhone.

Android now has a huge majority share in phones. Users are now starting to see the benefit of sticking to an ecosystem for phones and tablets (NFC bump between phone and tablet is strangely fun !)

The iPad has a huge head start but I think that android tablets will now start to gain more traction. I work in I.t. and the majority of people now buying tablets are buying android, whether its the transformer due to its unique design , the nexus 7 (as its currently cool) or the samsungs. I know I.t. is a niche and obviously more tech savvy but apple seems to have lost its cool. It used to be what us geeks loved - the lovable underdog - but that stance seems to have changed.

And from my kids perspective even the iPhone is no longer the cool thing to have ....

That is actually quite an interesting thing to know - I've got to admit I always thought they were still seen as the 'cool' item to have.

I think as Apple has become bigger you can't keep the 'cool' as you become too corporate and now that Steve Jobs is no longer about they don't even have a figurehead that's well known for people to listen to

I've got a daughter at university who wouldn't be seen dead without her iPhone and a 14 year old in secondary school who it seems coouldnt breath without her Blackberry.

Most kids in UNI or school have no idea what Android is, its either iPhone or Blackberry,

I think the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the first Android phone to start getting more noticed now

Most uni students don't know what android is? Seems odd since they sell more units than anyone else. I guess android buyers must all be tech experts.

It's good to know people are still so superficial though. Even if our uni students are stupid.

Iphone lost its cool with 'the kids' for the same reason facebook did; no-one wants the same phone/social network as their parents.

I've never bought apple stuff for myself because I have my own business using google apps as the core and I need my laptop/phone/tablet to work seamlessly with my work stuff.

A couple of years ago I bought my husband an iphone for his birthday and I was somewhat vindicated as it took ages before decent googletalk apps came along for iphone and that is a non-negotiable for our business. He did however love the phone, the ease of use and the brilliant apps (especially the golf swing analysers!).

About 5 months ago I decided to treat myself with a tablet and I chose android as I wanted it to be useful for work as well as a toy. I got a toshiba 10" tablet and really didn't like it. It was too big and chunky physically and too slow and clunky on the OS/software side.

When the nexus came out I decided to give it another go but buy it strictly as a luxury and not worry about the business side. What a revelation. It is easily as good as the iphone - if anything it is a bit faster, more responsive.

If Apple do bring out an ipad mini then one thing that would raise it above the nexus would be to have a second camera so you can take photos with it. I would feel a bit of a nob taking photos/videos with my tablet but I would do it if it was there. My camera on my blackberry isn't great and I am way past the point of taking a separate camera with me. My tablet goes everywhere with me so it would be perfect on that. I do realise that the reason the second camera isn't there is to keep the price down.

Nonsense.
I have Two daughters at Uni and a son in college, most of their friends are on android or BB. My kids hate apple for some reason, I think it's the whole 'apple is cool' thing that they're just rebelling against.

Cameras on tablets are stupid. The form factor is poor for taking photos as to compose the shot you have to hold it further away from your body, and in the vast majority of cases, the cameras on phones (which you also take everywhere) are significantly better than the ones on tablets.
