for anyone who has VIRGIN as their tv provider... City of Death is one of a whole pile of Dr Who serials on the "on demand" section of the service .... #justsaying

"I've got all the machinery I need!"

One of my fav Who lines of all times. I still giggle when I hear it.

Just re-watched a few classic Baker's and although I love this story it leaves a little sad at the end.

Partly because it's been such fun and it's sad when it's over (and with the benefit of hindsight you've got Creature from the Pit next - yuck!)

But partly because of Duggan, I just feel sorry for him. It seems to me he's just a bumbling, likeable, fool. Classic series never went to deep into the characters but for all we know he has no one in his life, not a great deal of excitement and then all of a sudden he has the adventure of a lifetime and then just as quickly it's all over and the people he' shared it with are leaving and he'll never see them again!

I always feel melancholy when watching them run away shouting bye bye Duggan and hoping he's got a nice wife and kids to go back too and tell stories to.

I get a similar feeling with The Stones of Blood, with the Professor as essentially she's left all alone at the end of the story. I know I'm being stupid, neither character seems particularly sad about their situation.

Duggan would have been a good companion.

It's a really interesting point about Duggan. In the New Series you would probably have that aspect of him explored a lot more thoroughly, but in Classic Who, you don't over analyse characters like him in this way. He's just there as an additional character and that's it!

Can you imagine any son of Duggan?! Probably would be inside for GBH and you certainly wouldn't go near him if he's drinking a bottle of beer..............
