Has the X Factor had its day?
Poll.
Is it time for the X Factor to be axed and let other shows onto ITV1? |

Poll.
Is it time for the X Factor to be axed and let other shows onto ITV1? What else would they replace it with though? The average is about 9-10 million, no other show (apart from BGT) on ITV1 gets these ratings, not even the soaps. So why would they want to axe one of their highest rating TV shows?

I think it is time for the show to go next year. I have been a viewer since the end of series 1 and now I'm completely over it.

I think so. It's no different to the last few years, but it's such a tired format.

Its just such a shame for proper singers who have struggled to try to make a living, not handed it to them on a plate like these nonenities.
If they think they're so good, let them get into the business the proper way. |

No. Last night was a terrific show. If you think its had its day then you know zip about tv and are just trying to feel superior.

I love(d) the show but I voted yes.
The format has been dreadful since 2009. Series 1 - 5 was a great format and worked well, and I believe that format still works right now, but Simon continues to break something that doesn't need fixing. Auditions: The room auditions are much better. Much more interaction with the acts and the "joke" acts are a lot more funny because they aren't stood in front of 5,000 people getting laughed and booed at. Auditions take 8 - 10 minutes per act. Far too long and I lose interest after two minutes of them telling their life story  Heading to their house/work and filming them. Showing acts talking backstage about how nervous they are and yet don't show them perform - all pointless filler that just makes the show drag. The rest of the format is okay, but I'd get rid of having 16 acts in the live shows, far too many and double eliminations/judges houses part 2 is rubbish. Also the manipulation now shown in the live shows is ridiculous - they don't even bother to try and hide it. Overall, I do still enjoy the show, but if it was to be axed, I wouldn't miss it. |

I have no problem with new and fresh artists taking the opportunity to be showcased on a TV show. It has been a favourite pastime on British TV and for the GBP for many years.
However, the XF Machine has shown its card and it is very tacky now. Individuals like SC, with his machinations and manipulations, and his sidekick Louis have ruined it for me. They take away any credibility. Then they throw in a puppet like Olly Murs on the X Tra Factor, taking over from professional presenters, and it gets even tackier. That offshoot is aimed at the shallowest of people. Can't even understand what him and the female are even saying they are so poor verbally. Shambolic. |

Hmm, well it's certainly debatable, and if I'm honest... I'm not even entirely sure right now. However, I did enjoy the opening episode and the Xtra Factor, so for now at least, I'm gonna say NO!

They have claimed that they are being too realiant on The X Factor and that they are keen to axe it.

Yes. I honestly think it's a cruel, manipulative, fake waste of space. Not to mention repetitive and predictable.
It doesn't help that we've had two weeks of watching really talented, hard-working people strive for their success but this year it's just so apparent that people don't really give a crap about a nobody plucked from obscurity and given a record contract that's going to last 2 years if their lucky. Time to chop it ITV. If they put more money into quality drama's or even a talent show that doesn't rely on bitchy judges and laughing at vulnerable people - maybe then they will realise they can make ad revenue across a wider spectrum. |

In terms of the ratings, we'll have to wait until it's finished to decide that.

Love him or hate him, the show needs Simon,
Another problem is, although it remains the best of talent shows, we;ve had a surfeit of them this year, what with the Voice and the search for Jesus. I think viewers are just fed up with the search for a star, especially when the industry is now introducing new singers almost weekly without the need of a public vote. |

I've heard rumours that ITV has a talent show lined up after x factor that is again based around music but apparently its meant to be more based around music and not singing. A bit like must be the music. Could be a good show

Definitely YES...
I baled out of BB a year too lake and I think by watching last years series of X Factor I repeated the same mistake. Not only did I loose interest in the show last year but perhaps just as importantly for me I lost interest in the X Factor forums thanks to moronic "fanboys" who close down any meaningful discussion on the relative abilities of the various acts... |

Yes and No is my answer, if they went back to basics, got rid of the early stages being in front of an audience and did it like they used to do just in-front of the judges, stopped hyping up certain acts with back stories, showed more acts instead of spending 15 minutes on one act and rushing through others so you don't see them, bring back Danni and make it more about the contestants and not about the judges and who their mentor.
watching American Idol you realize how good a show UK x factor could be, shame they get it so wrong. |

I think it has seen its peak. But won't go anywhere (and rightly so) at the current level because nothing else on TV is going to rate any better. It's worth remembering that despite last nights poor ratings, they are still what the show was getting in 2006 when it was still to have its day! In "real terms" (given a large decline in commercial TV audiences) that's a good number.

At the end of the day, don't you just know that all the people voting yes in the poll still watch it anyway?
The question is, what would replace it? Some crap like Red or Black, which got less than half the viewers last night as XF, or another 30 year old James Bond film? I'll stick with XF thanks, (along with the other 9-10m).
