Using PS3 for DVD's?
Does anyone else use their PS3 for watching their DVD's?
I used to but I became worried about overworking the laser, so I bought a dedicated DVD player, but now I regret it as it looks a bit crammed on my unit! What does everyone else do? |

I'm guessing it was maybe a faulty console though? It's been returned for a replacement now. |

I use mine to play DVDs and BDs all the time, would be daft to use a seperate unit IMO.

As far as I know the DVD laser should be a separate mech to the Blu Ray one. I say this as when my Phatty stopped playing games it still played audio CD's and DVD's.
May be wrong though

i see it as a all in one devices - i dont have anything else under the tv (maybe apple tv in the future if sky go can be 'mirrored' via airplay).
Ive had it coming up to 4 years in december so roughly £75per year its cost so far, excellent value for money |

PS3 is a media player first and a games machine second, for me anyhow. I use it daily for downloaded content (converting .mkv is easy) and blu-rays/dvds. There really is no need for a seperate unit. The only drawback is cinavia when watching downloaded content that is protected.
