Can singles survive?
Next year, download sales figures will be included in the official singles charts. will this halt the decline of the single?, or is it a dying format?, destined to become just a loss leader to advertise an album?
Footnote The Fortieth best selling single of 1997 was; 40 C U When U Get There - Coolio featuring 40 Thevz [3] 340,000 The SIXTH best selling single of 2003 was; 6. Tatu - 'All The Things She Said' 338,000 The THIRD best selling single of 2004 so far is; 3 Yeah - Usher 294,000 So the Fortieth of 1997 would be the third, (probabaly fourth when Band aid figures are added) of this year!. sales figures courtesy of coolclarity. |

Even though you can buy indivdual tracks rather than the whole album iTunes has proved that singles and albums are here to stay just go to http://www.apple.com/itunes and look at the charts
