Jennifer, I have to congratulate your mentor on choosing a song that sounds literally like it was written for you, but again like Casey I am a little confused by this song choice, to me it doenst really feel like a pop song, I could be wrong but it just doesn’t sound like a pop track to me, but like Jess when i dug around about the song it said it was pop so, I assume it is.

I am really confused by this song choice. I may not understand what the Jazz crossover genre entails, so Lainey could you explain to me how this fits into the genre cause I am really confused, as I dont wanna say its breaking the rules without the full facts.
LOL! It means jazz crossed over into other genres i.e. blues, soul, pop. But as long as it has a jazz base which I thought/think it does then its allowed.

Its down to interpretation I guess. Everyone feels different about what fits in where. I guess everyone would have agreed if they felt the same.

Sorry I am crap at explaining!

Jennifer Ewbank - The last day on earth

Great Job Jennifer!! I really enjoyed that performance, your mentor did a great job with this song choice. Definitely one of my favourite performances of the night (excluding my own acts). I really hope you get through to see more of you next week! That was a really great job!

Oh, good comments even if Steve questioned whether the choice was pop or not.

Next up, speak of the devil, it's Steve and Marissa Von Bleicken who is performing Not Over You!

Marissa Von Bleicken - Not over you

I can see where your mentor was going with this choice, but it really did not work for me. I applaud ya for doing something different but I did not think the song choice was a great match for marissa. Personally, I love her sass and powerful vocals and this just did not suit her. I found it a bit boring unfortunitely. Sorry. Also don't think this song was soul. Personally I just think it is country!

Marissa:-I have done my research completely and this is not Soul RnB this is in fact a pop/rock track!. The song choice was okay and I could see you could do some justice to it, but it doesn;t even resemble a soul/rnb track. I don;t know what to say, the vocal was good as always Marissa, but this is called battle of the genres, and that was most definitely not within your genre.

Here is my evidence, stevie is you find something that can show me it is soul/rnb is something else thats fine but too me thats not within your genre

Marissa Von Bleicken- This was different! In a bad way, nay awful. Like, I don't understand. THIS IS FREE CHOICE. If this awful song appears on Free Choice- how on earth will you cope with restricted themes? If your mentor couldn't find anything better, he should never put you through. I would suggest you find yourself for next week, but you won't be here. It's not even soul.

Gav is blue eyed soul.

These judges know nothing, tbh.

Marissa, you were the other act that I had an issue with the song choice from not reading the theme properly as I had chosen a great cover of this song for you. But saying that I think this performance was really great, it not only allowed you to showcase your vocals but i thought you were able to bring across your personality well into that performance. And for the people who question it is technically listed as pop/rock and blue eyed soul so it does fit in with my genre.

Oh dear, poor comments for Marissa and all three judges arguing that the song isn't a soul choice. However, as I'm nice and the song's wiki does state blue-eyed soul as a genre it falls under, the tag isn't being applied.

Right, next we have a PJ Harvey song by Mariette Hansson who is mentored by Jess!

Marriette Hansson - Down by the water

That was an interesting song choice. I didn’t love this song choice personally, I just didn’t like it that much but I definitely see how it was a good choice for you. You did a good job, just personally I did not particularly like it. Sorry but still good job! I can see the possibilities if you make it through which I think ya will!

Mariette Hannsson

Mariette, I am not usually a fan of this type of music but I have to say I really enjoyed that performance tonight. There is no way you will get sent home after that performance. I look forward to your next performance now and watching how you can progress throughout this competition.

Mariette:- Mariette for me you are a real threat in this competition and I think jess is onto a winner with you. That song choice was terrific, a real moment, you needed that performance tonight, and I think you are superb, your tone is phenomenal good job and good luck in the rest of the competition, im worried your really good.

Marriette Hanson- i really believe you're an excellent performer- and that was entirely unique. Each week I think we'll be able to reinvent you so you're constantly at the top of your game, and I personally believe that you deserve to progress extremely far into this competition, as the list of possibilities for us is endless.

Quite good comments for Mariette there!

Singing a song by Erin McCarley now for Lainey's category is Lauriana Mae!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmmnA0a5z0c

And singing Different for Bazz is the last of his acts tonight, it's Dia Frampton!

Laurianna Mae - Lovesick Mistake

Great Job Laurianna!! I really liked this song choice and I think you did a great job with it! This was the perfect begining to the live shows for you in my opinion. I can’t wait to see what we can do if you manage to get through tonight. You did an amazing job tonight, I really loved the tone of your performance in particular!

Dia Frampton - Different

That was good! You did a pretty good job with that song choice. It wasn’t my favourite tonight but it was good. It was a good first performance! Just not a particularly great song in my opinion. I can’t wait to see what your mentor does with you next week, I would like to see something a little cooler perhaps but this was a really good start. I liked it!

Lauriana Mae

Lauriana, you have such a strange and unique vocal style and I feel that your mentor has done a great job with you this week on the song choice. I really can’t think of how this fits into the Jazz genre, I know I previously asked about this genre but I really can’t place this in that genre, sorry.

Dia Frampton

Dia, I have to say I actually liked that performance. I thought this may have been a bit of a train wreck if I am being honest, but I really liked it. I cant wait to see what Bazz is going to do with you over the coming weeks.

Laurianne;- That was a great performance, i really enjoyed that, it was very atmospheric, and had you showed real intensity throughout. I think that is what needs to be shown in the jazz genre that emotion and intensity. The songchoice was brilliant and you captured the darkness of the song well done!

Dia:- Brilliant Dia! I wanted to make sure when i mentored you I just didn't have you standing there singing your usual songs, because I believe you have a terrific voice which is adaptable to both slow, mid tempo and uptempo songs which is why you are on my team. I think you could do very well indeed in the show, your voice is so endearing, I loved that performance, and I even saw our host kevin having a bit of a dance in the background haha

For laurianna, It didn't really give genres on wikipedia or anything but she is influenced by some jazz singers. I just took it as she had that in her music but I could be wrong!

Laurianna Mae- Hey Laurianna! This song choice was quite good! I enjoyed the whole intensity of it- and I think your mentor found a song which complimented the different aspects of your vocals. Next week I'd like you to sing a more upbeat song, as I feel you can really add some of that quirkiness to a fun performance.

Dia Frampton- I definitely enjoyed this performance! Although it wasn't one of my favourites, it was a great taster as to how Bazz sees you as an artist, and I'm certain that you will be here next week to expand upon tonight's performance and allow us to see more of you as an artist.

Two good sets of comments for both girls there, will the public save them this week?

Up next is the last of Steve's acts Ashthon Jones with a Jazmine Sullivan song!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLJFjrwT0VI

And for Jess' final act, we have Iris Kroes who is tackling Yeah Yeah Yeahs!
