Gorgeous, beautiful, amazing song. The lighting of the cauldron was easily my favourite moment of the opening ceremony along with The Queen & Bond.

I was determined not to get drawn in by the hype surrounding the Olympics but relented and watched on iplayer. Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean playing Chariots of Fire made me smile but this music was just awesome as was the whole Industrial theme. Love Paul McCartney but what does Hey Jude have to do with the Olympics? This music was so right for the opening ceremony. From a band that's been around since 1980 but who I've never heard of until now. Sampled other music from them and not impressed tbh as it isn't anything like Caliban's Dream. From the opening sound of it during the 2 minute silence to the reprise towards the end I was just in awe. Love it! love it! love it!

Beautiful piece of music - will always remind me of the amazing opening ceremony.
Danny Boyle's choice of music throughout was genius imo

It was just a perfect piece of music to the perfect cauldron lighting ever!
This piece alone sums up the whole atmosphere and spirit of the games. Play it in years to come and it will always sum up that moment. |

Been around for years and will always be there. That playing with some Shakespeare over the top and you are on to a guaranteed winner! |

One version of the lyrics are these: (Very fitting the occasion)
As the rain tossed above us; In the garden of the world But a flame arrives to guide us; Past the gold between the angles of the stars Watch you over all the children in the rain; And the streets where I remember Where the fire that lights a candle soars again; A flaring flame, Hear it call; Through the darkness, Hear it call to us all And start again; Its beating heart Comes again |

I'm not a music fan, but when I heard this as the flame was brought into the stadium, I decided 'I must have this'
Beautiful! |

I heard it during the opening ceremony too, and loved it, I am now discovering just how good Underworld are - I had previously only heard Born Slippy and didn't enjoy it
The music in the opening ceremony was inspired with the exception of the already referenced OAP who was totally out of place |

The music in the opening ceremony was inspired with the exception of the already referenced OAP who was totally out of place Well the opening ceremonly was as much about celebrating Britain as it was about the Olympics itself. You may as well say the whole of the ceremony minus Caliban's Dream was out of place. Did the Queen need to be there? Did James Bond need to be featured? Or Mr Bean? Or the portrayal of Isambard Kingdom Brunel? The Beatles are still loved the world over as is Sir Paul McCartney although I think if he had written something specially for the Olympics he wouldn't have looked so "out of place". "The End" may have seemed fitting but it just seemed like a way of squeezing him in. |
