Citizen Khan - BBC One
I saw an advert for this new sitcom on BBC 1 starting on 27th August, what's it about?

From the promo, it looks deeply unfunny. If they are the best bits it makes 'My Family' look like Fawlty Towers!

I saw the trailer and it looks painfully unfunny, just like a previous minority based car crash called "The Crouches"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/crouches/ How that got two series I don't know

A ghastly pun in the title is often a bad omen for a sitcom.
See also Laura and Disorder, Life of Riley etc. |

I'll give it a go. I doubt if there's an ounce of originality in it, but I quite took to the father character, and the producers have a good pedigree. (Twenty Twelve, Not Going Out, etc.)
We'll see. |

Maybe it's just past culture weighing everything down, the series itself might be good. |

From the trailer it looks dire and I doubt we will bother to watch. |

Here is a previous incarnation of Mr Khan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN6QI-2S0IM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk_if...feature=relmfu looks like the BBC like the character and actor. |

Adil Ray, who co-wrote and stars, is an extremely funny and distinguished broacaster. I'm sure everyones opinions will change once theyve seen a full episode. I saw one being filmed at Mediacity. It is very good!

You can imagine Alan Partrideg pitching it. `Situation comedy,Tony. About a sort of Asian,either Indian-Asian or Pakistani-Asian,it doesn`t matter,but not Middle Eastern,y`know,one of those uh,a kind of Asian wheeler dealer,cheeky chappy,Delboy type. It`s called `Citizen Khan`. |

![]() Although, I am actually looking forward to this. Mr Khan - as seen in the several YouTube clips - strikes me as a very funny and well portrayed character. I just hope that he hasn't been diluted for the mainstream audience. |

It reminds me a smidge of Mrs Brown. Now I initially thought Mrs Brown's Boys was going to be horrific, but when it first went out, well you know the rest...

I saw the trailer and it looks embarrassingly cringey.
My first thought was progs (in the 70's?) like Love Thy Neighbour. I think that's the one anyway about the white couple and black couple who are neighbours. Is it supposed to be set in that era? I can't imagine who will find it funny. I wouldn't think Asians would enjoy watching it because it looks so unfunny. |
