errrm, I know the BBC get the credit for most things (e.g. Downton Abbey by the Americans) but, unless I've missed something...

Maybe the letter writer is one of those people, who seem to have a massive hard-on for the BBC.

Well, encouraged by my in laws (born in India - loved GGM) I've now watched CK, and I found it to be not offensive enough to be funny. Let me expand on that, otherwise it's likely to be misinterpreted as me wanting it to be offensive! Comedy nowadays (since The Goons, I suppose?) seemingly has to shock to get laughs but having Muslims as the subject limits that scope for truly offensive humour. The only other course for comedy is either clever wordplay (e.g. Yes Minister) or having likeable characters (Dad's Army) and CK had neither of those benefits.

If you are part of the Asian community, you would no doubt recognise the "com" in the "sit" (keeping things wrapped in plastic - yep - been there!) and enjoy that aspect of the show, but I think that works best in a sketch show like GGM - it can't be the basis of a successful sitcom.

So, 7/10 for the effort, 2/10 for the implementation.

What an appallingly bad sitcom. Will probably run for years....

Let's prepare ourselves for the barrage of abuse this show will receive tonight! Or maybe some people can just lighten up and give it a chance and others can just simply watch something else

But as it's on BBC, funded by licence payers money, I think people have every right to air their views

I usually love audience based sitcoms but this is yet another one that fails badly.

Like most modern studio based sitcoms the scripts are awful, the acting is very contrived and the directing is poor. Put all three together and you get a car crash.

Why is it so difficult for TV producers to find actors that actually know how to act comedy properly?

Who mentioned the license fee, what's that got to do with it?
Is there some restriction on commenting on shows on commercial channels?
Has anyone mentioned restricting anyone's right to post on here if it's a BBC product?

On balance, License fee, my ar$e

Aye, I've spent more time on this thread than I did watching the show.
Paralympics will probably be on, so I won't be rushing to watch this again anyway.
I'll probably hang about to read the posts on the thread, far more entertaining

Hey ho...

I'm watching the first episode and it's pretty funny! If anyone's offended by this show they seriously need to lighten up, it's just a fun audience comedy.

I just caught up with the first episode and I thought it was ok, it wasn't laught out loud funny but there were a few scenes that made me smile. My grandparents are quite like the Khans and certain things like the decor (only modernised in the last 10 years) plastic wrapping and constant talk of what will people think we're things I could relate too. I'll be giving it another watch tonight, my biggest gripe is the accents to be honest.

Wow, just watching this programme - never heard of it before. My god, it's awful! Who the hell commissioned this? It's like comedy stopped improving in 1977.

This is the location of the mosque in the show - it's not like I'm missing much looking this up instead of watching it (not hard to find - googled the company opposite when he pulled in to the car park) lol

I quite like it, but i's gently funny and would be much better shown on a Saturday or Sunday early evening.
