Why use the Bullring exterior, because it's a well known local landmark and Birmingham seems be a bit part of the program.
Why not film inside, probably couldn't afford it or couldn't get permission.

I didn't watch btw, it's not my sort of thing, but I'm still subscribed to the thread.”

BIB - both very good, sensible points which are probably as close to the truth as anything.

I'm giving it a go - my children like it as well - and find it just a gentle comedy with some amusing lines, if cliched situations. It's the kind of thing I record in series link and then save for a rainy afternoon when I'm working from home! But I can see how it can easily not be very attractive to watch.

(I've googled Adil Ray too now following other comments on the thread recently - blimey, he looks different in RL doesn't he!!!!)

I don't have a problem with 'broadbrush/gentle' comedy, but I did catch a bit while surfing with the Bullring and Toilet incidents, but it got nothing out of me.

Actors being a strange bunch, Marshall leaves My Family to pursue "serious" acting roles only to return to a mainstream sit-com like Citizen Khan.

I supposet the BT ad money must have run out.

To be fair, you need to see it all (and more than once, probably - if you could bear it!) to find the comedy in it. Just one or two scenes won't do it. I'd only watched it once, then my children wanted to watch on iplayer, so I watched them both again - ok, it's never going to side-splitting, but there are some sharp lines in there (probably even sharper if you are more familiar with the situation) though it's done in a very understated, dated way to modern tastes.

It might not float many people's boat from the comedy point of view, and that's ok - we can't all like everything. I don't 'get' the comedy from people like Russell Brand, Alan Carr or Frankie Boyle, but if others do then that's up to them. But I'm a bit bemused at the complaints (not made by you, I hasten to add, just a general observation!) that 'Citizen Khan' is racist - it doesn't seem to make sense when it's written by, and stars, a British Pakistani Muslim who's satirising his own community!

What's strange, someone leaves job due to boredom (or whatever it was, I don't know) goes on to do other jobs (He's very good as Samuel Pepys on Radio 4), then ends up doing a similar job to the job they left due to boredom.
Bills have to be paid and there are more actors than jobs.

I don't understand, all this schadenfreude, that surrounds actors if they try to improve their prospects and they don't get the jobs they want.

Has anyone actually said it's racist, if so they're overshadowed by the 'it's $hit' posts on here.
I've seen people tell racist jokes against their own race, well I judged them to be racist and someone trying hard to 'fit in' with another race.
Out and out ar$elicking IMO.

This week's episode was quite funny with some LOL moments. Glad I stuck with it. Let's hope it continues to get better.

I finally saw an episode yesterday. I'm not commenting on whether it's offensive, racist or whatever - all I can say is that it was like going back in time 30-40 years, when 'comedies' like Mind Your Language and Nearest and Dearest were absolute crud!

He was on Galaxy Yorkshire back in the day (I.e the late 90s).

Might give this a watch as it seems to be getting ok reviews.

He does look quite tasty, doesn't he?!

Mind you, that's the point of acting. Shobu Kapoor looks v different from Mrs Khan, too. (Lovely to see her back on TV again. "What are you doing Sanjay?" was a popular catchphrase round these parts in the 90s).

It does feel like a throwback, doesn't it?! Like something from a different time. Mind you, an Asian sitcom would never have been considered, back in the day, so maybe things are moving on.

I really enjoyed the 2nd episode. I think this could turn out to be a very funny series.

Can't quite see it (watched ep. 2 only) but then, it took a series for dinnerladies to grow on me, so maybe there's hope. So far, the only bits I enjoyed were when my limited Urdu enabled me to understand bits before they were translated.

Just did a google search for Adil Ray
Assumed a guy in his 50s was playing Mr Khan so was surprised to see a young guy was playing him.

Watched this last night after I sky+ it, I watched the first episode, thought it was ok, not a LOL comedy but I thought I'd give it another chance

after watching the 2nd episode, I'm glad I did give it another chance, its still not up to top quality standard but its improved week on week for me, I will be watching again tomorrow night

p.s. can't believe this is Mr Khan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adil_Ray

This is probably the lamest comedy i have had the misfortune to see , its the lowest common denominator of comedy. I would imagine muslims are probably outraged at how rubbish it is rather than it causing offence . It doesn't seem like its very offensive except for the koran part in episode 1 which was a bit risque.

I don't see this lasting past one season.

my 7 year old nephew could probably produce a better comedy.

As soon as i heard about Citizen Khan I just knew it would be the same character I saw on Bellamy's People a couple of years ago. I liked it, i've watched both episodes twice. There are little gems in there like 'I pray with a straight back' that tickled me. Even the way Mr Khan says 'Dave'

Cannot believe how different Adil Ray looks like in real life

I've watched eps 2 and 3. I found 3 better than 2, marginally, though not quite rib-tickling yet. There was One place where I laughed out loud but I can't remember what it was.....

The accents bug me a bit, especially Sanjay's wife's - sometimes both she and Mr. Khan sound sub-Peter Sellers.

There are little insight points that pique me: Mr. Khan calls all the Pakistani committee members "Mr." but the English one "Dave", despite him being the Chair - love the 'you're not really one of us', unconscious racism.

However, by and large, it feels like an exceptionally drivelly sit-com, sub-most things I've seen, delivery in cod Pakistani accents.

but I probably will try again next week..... ;D

I thought that was very funny - my 14 year old daughter thought so too (oh, the perils of raising daughters, lol!).
